World Map

The map of the world (available from the F7 menu) can be changed so that it displays or hides the positions of other players, towns and buildings. You can also disable the map completely, and change the way it is drawn.

Choosing which players are drawn on the map

The default setup displays the locations of all the players currently on your world. For a combat game, you will probably want to hide some players (perhaps if they're on the opposition team, for instance).

The setting to control this is..

''*settings -> Graphics -> Show Position on Map'' \\

0 = Players position is not displayed on the island map
1 = Players position is displayed on the island map
2 = All players' positions are displayed on the island map
3 = Barons (or above) see all players on the map, unauthorised players see only themselves.
4 = Knights (or above) see all players on the map, unauthorised players see only themselves.
5 = Gods (or above) see all players on the map, unauthorised players see only themselves.
6 = All players on your own team are displayed on the map, only the player is displayed if he/she is not on a team.

Changing the appearance of the map

The normal world map texture is generated based on the landscape height information generated via the terrain editor. Alternatively, you can use a .jpg image that you make yourself. *settings → Graphics → Map Display Mode controls which mode is used, and also has settings that turn off other map features, such as town locators and race checkpoints.

To have a fixed map image, set Map Display Mode to 4 or 7. (Mode 7 displays walls on top of the map image). The image used should be stored in your server's Data\Textures folder and called map.jpg.

Note : The client does not currently cache this image file, so it has to redownloaded on each visit. For that reason, it might be wisest to avoid using map images for now, to prevent excessive downloads (until the client caching is added).

Other options available for this setting are :

0 = Generates a green contour map from the heightfield.
1 = A contour map is displayed, areas covered with a surface other than the main surface are displayed in grey, main surface is green.
2 = A more transparent version of 0
3 = As 0
4 = A map image is displayed. (The image is kept in the server Data\textures folder (TODO - Confirm this )
5 = Walls are displayed on map.
6 = Grey contour map. Walls are displayed as white lines
7 = A map image is displayed. Walls are displayed on map.
8 = As 1 but less transparent + Walls and trees are displayed on the map.
9 = Race checkpoints are displayed on the map.

Making the map purchaseable

A special setting lets you have the map available to players who have purchased the 'Island Map' item.

Set *settings → Graphics → Special Menu Modes to 10
