0.52.0 beta
Hi,
If you're in the "closed beta" usergroup, you should now see the beta-release of the next client in the downloads page. Full release (and release notes) will follow shortly, but if anyone can and wants to give the beta build a quick test-through and highlight any problems, please do
If you're not in the "closed beta" usergroup and want to be, apply using the usergroups link at the top of the forum page.

These are going to be excellent. At last new players will actually understand advice being offered to them. Coolbiker requested this years ago, because he couldn't talk to new players properly unless they understood what chat channels were and how to switch across to them. So hopefully, we will be able to instruct new players in how to play the gamezaroba wrote:-clients are in star system chat by default now

I plan to continue doing some updates on TU over the next year. Won't be quite as much as in, say 2003, but i'll be doing bits.. Theres still more life to deal with here (kid n suchlike) so i dont have massive amounts of time free, but the Sony work hopefully won't be quite so draining this year.So Mit. Is this the last we are going to see of you for awhile again or are you planning to continue this much needed progression?
FYI, the current plan is for a 0.53.0 (which i might.. for mysterious reasons of my own.. call 0.60.0) in a month or two with the following:
- A scripted introduction/guide for new players
- More improvements (or at least clarification) to the p2p communications in space
- Instancing support for the gal server to be able to cope with large numbers of people in a single system
- A (signifcant) update to the space encounters/quests system to make that bit more variable and interesting.
- Preloading models & resources for cutscenes
- A servermanager system to allow more worlds to be hosted more easily.
- Balancing & fixes to the playability of space stuff, particularly in regard to bounties.
- Lots more things to add in cutscenes
- More scripting functions.
- More bugfixes
- Some other stuff
Yeh, it's not finished and probably isn't usable enough for people new to the model format. But if you're patient and willing to forgive any foibles the beta has, I can send ya the new MC - drop me an email. There's a lot you can do with it that simply isn't possible with the old MC - especially multi-texturing and material types...
