Well I basically followed the steps you told me.

I did copy paste to put the world server in the same file as the game, then deleted the other file which was apparently causing conflict , then I fixed the reroute ( I saw I had mistaken the ext. IP and int.). And voila!, she's up.

Yes, the reroute was necessary.

Hmmm, problem not totally solved I see, now others players cant connect to my world it shows up as offline to them, now what's wrong?!?!?!

I tried various solutions the world manual offered me, but none of them worked...

The world editor is not very user friendly now is it? :?

Another reroute might be necessary. Could you explain exactly what your network set up is (how many PCs, whether you connect via a router or directly from the PC, and which PC(s) have the world and client on (I assume one PC has both but just in case).

Could you also let me know what reroute(s) you used to get it working for you so far.

the reroute, well... the ones that you told me (one in /theuniversal and one in /client), although in a try to fix the problem I changed the world port to 0, but nothing changed.

OK, I'm using a wireless network, here is an image of what I have, in this image, the PC circled in red is the one I'm using, I connect via a USB wireless adapter.

Rrright... well I don't understand your diagram much. But what it tells us is that you're behind a router.

Basically what I think is happening, is that people are trying to connect to your world (the galaxy tells them what your IP is) and their clients happily send data to that IP address. But your router doesn't know what to do with that data... which local PC to send it to.

So what you'll need to do is set up a rule in your router to forward all UDP traffic on your world's port (not zero) to your PC's local IP address.

How you do that depends on the router make/model... usually they have an admin page and something like "port forwarding" or "NAT" settings... it'll be in there.

OK fooli, this is my port fowarding window, I set my world port to 3740, but I don't know if what I did here was correct, actually I don't even know what I'm doing here:

Of course, this little change I made, has not changed anything, other players still cant connect to Vert.

That looks fine, except you haven't entered the right local ip address. It should be 192.168.0.1, or 2, or 3 etc...

OK, that is solved, players can land, but hold the horse, one problem after the other, now players can land but textures wont download. For example, jmoyet landed, he said the terraint texture did download but the wildlife textuxe 'ostrich.bmp' tried to download but it coudn't, he said it stayed at ' 0 of 133k' or something like that. Same with sky texture.

So now my question is, now what the hell is causing this problem?

I'm sorry if I'm being to much of a pain Fooli.

The lazy mode stuff should not affect it.

The fact that *some* textures are getting through means there's nothing fundamentally wrong. The fact that *other* files are not getting through could be for any number of reasons. It's either the file transfer system (the new one is better, supposedly) or just general connection problems between you and other players.

It's the sort of problem that can happen when your connection is maxxed out trying to serve files to several players at once. Or sometimes, just one player... it's a very difficult area to troubleshoot.

What sort of connection are you on?

Something else you might consider: by default, your world server will send all files directly to players. If you have a large number of models, textures and sounds this is going to mean file transfer of several Mbs, possibly several 10s of Mbs, each time a new player joins your world. That is going to slow down things considerably. A much better option is to host your files on a web server, so players can get your stuff at web download speeds and free up your PC for more important things, like managing the actual game :)

Firewall perhaps? Although it's permiting connection to the island.

Sad thing is, nobody is in the galaxy to help me now. :(

I have found this while you were on the world, see anything abnormal?

Well I tried everything in mind, but I give up, looks like I'll never be able to host a world.

What have we learnt from all of this?

Don't give up - you've just got it working :)

As I said earlier today... you've got the world networking stuff sorted out, the problem seems to be something to do with your internet connection. You said you had an 11mps connection... looking back at your screenshots, and reading between the lines, you have an 11mps network connection (via 802.11b wireless networking). That's got nothing to do with the speed of your Internet connection via a cable modem, or what have you.

If, as your diagram shows, you have a cable or adsl modem.. then in theory you should have enough bandwidth upstream to send files to players at a reasonable rate. But that would depend on your Internet provider... maybe they're not so hot. Maybe it was a bad time, I dunno. That could be one thing to investigate. Or... it could still have to do with your local networking setup. For example... you might have a great Internet connection, but perhaps your local wireless link to it isn't great... so it's dropping packets or something else to make the connection dodgy. I really don't know, it's a complex area. Usually it's something simple to fix, but there are many 'somethings' in that mix - finding the right one is what makes it complex.

This brings me to a final point, in answer to your question:

I'll reply with another quote, from one of our web pages:

Well it looks like I fixed the whole problem all toguether, I invited viad to try and all the textures downloaded for him, the sky, vehicles, etc.....

I'm not pretty sure what I fixed but I think it is because I disabled the new file transfer system and file compression.
