very nice work, sir :)
expect to see a whole load of wind turbines and barrels on my worlds soon.

amongst other things, im planning on sorting out a proper dynamic shadowing system at some point soon.. animated wind turbines are particularly useful for that.

p.s. This is too much bloom, right? :)

ooo, perfect timing, I was planning on having a wind turbine as one of the powerplants on the new zoric :)

Glad the timing was perfect zar :)

Sounds great to get some proper dynamic shadows in the game :P

There's however something i noticed with the smooth shading while i was creating the cylinder for the wind turbine in the Model Converter(2.13) .. You can see some tests i did below

Image
Left ones has the ends filled, right ones does not.

Apart from that i'm thinking of remodelling some of the current models in worlds so they can look better :)

That's probably coz when the model is exported its sharing the vertex at the top.. Would need someone who knows about the modelling program you're using (blender?) to tell you how to address that - in max its something to do with setting up smoothing groups, which effectively ensures that verts have separate normals where needed.

I also recently added an 'separate vertices' option (on the tools menu) that will split all the vertices and duplicate shared ones in the converter (on the Tools menu) .. not sure if that was in 2.13? ( If it isn't, i'll post an update tonight. )

If that option is there, you might be able to resolve things in the converter by separating the vertices then using the Tools -> Recalc Normals option.

Tis great that you're thinking of updating some stuff :)

I was looking at morvis's firepit model last night thinking that the rocks are neat enough, but the sticks could do with a bit of extra detail..

Model converter 2.14 :

http://theuniversaldownloads.com/ModelConverter214.zip

(Note that separating the vertices will affect the vertex numbering, so if you need to do that on something like the wind turbine you'll probably need to do it before you attach models together).

Is this what you're talking about Mit? (I can make the logs more round if you want, still wip)

And yes i use Blender :)

wonderful ! :)

probably needs some central pile of ash or something underneath the logs (otherwise i suspect it'll look a bit like the grass is on fire) but yeh... nice.

that charry texture on the logs looks neat, but the minimalist in me likes just a few of them. =)

give it a red glow in the ashes. It's awfully monochromatic after looking it it again. =)

I think the wood needs a better texture,
the logs almost look like they are made out of stone.
While that would be fine for a gas fire, I doubt that is the intention :p.

logically, the wood wouldn't all be ash-grey, it would have varying levels of color based on the varying degree of burning. The sides facing the flames would be ashy, but likely the opposite side of each log would be dark brown or black. Under the pile would be glowing red where the heat will be concentrated.

perhaps the ends, like the last quarter or so farthest from the fire be the natural wood color

So, a bit sad news, the firepit is probably not going to be finished to look any better than it's now (for now atleast).. Literally everytime i try to UV-Unwrap it the program just crashes. Sorry :(

I did learn quit alot trying to make it though, so thanks for that :)
I'm kinda busy with lots of other projects i've in mind, so more models to come isn't going to be right away either, i'll still try see if i can push some models out though, just.. Don't expect high-realistic models, i'm not that good an 'artist' yet :)

Hope i haven't disapointed ya' too much.
