struggling to start a new world
I was going to create a world so I downloaded the world editor to begin the task .
read the "world owners manual" introduction and decided take a look at the "world editor" and a basic world
installed "world editor" it in the universal folder
ran the program
got the "my world" icon
clicked on the said icon ,
got the world editor . ( which I have no dificulty understanding ) .........
however there is no BASIC world to edit ? so I am stuck .
where have I gone wrong ?

If you've just installed the unregistered world, that's about as basic as you can get. All the settings are at default, so is the landscape, and basically you're starting from scratch. Which actually is a good way to learn about the various things you can do - as it implies in the first time world owner's guide there's so much to get your head around, it makes sense to learn it bit by bit. So maybe start by playing with the vehicles, or doing the landscape, or something.
If you mean, is there a pre-configured world you can start with, have a look at this page.

Nope, still don't understand what you're saying.
Install the full unregistered world server (http://theuniversaldownloads.com/Unregi ... ll0504.exe)
Run the world server (universalworld.exe)
Run the game client, choose "your world"
You'll end up on your world. Click the world editor icon in the client, off you go.

what you have is the default.
the empty landscape, the in-game *settings stuff, etc.
if you want buildings, i have a few buildings.dat files uploaded to tuwr in the download section. or you could download the Buildings File Editor and make one.
theres also heightmaps in the download section if you want a different terrain.

There is no "world editor program". Read my post :) -
you run the world server
you run the game client
you use the game client to connect to your world server
the "world editor" is just functionality within the game client
It seems we're all having language difficulties, so why not post a screenshot. A picture paints a thousand words, as they say.

With the world server running, you should have an option on the game client menu screen called "Your world". Choose that and you should end up on... your world.
If you don't have that option, something's wrong with your install, either of the client and/or of the world server. You said you installed the world server in your Universal folder - that's the right place - but are you sure?

PS: you can't post images direct to this board. You have to link to them (ie, upload a pic to some webspace, and link to it using the [IMG] tag).

Aaargh.
Look: run the world. I assume you're doing that. You should see the server program, or if it's running minimised, a little blue/green circle icon in the taskbar.
With the world running, launch the game client. The normal game. The game client.
In the opening menu, you should see five options: Continue Game, Select Avatar, Help, Your World, Exit. Choose "Your World".
If you don't see "Your World", tell me what you do see. In the game. On the opening menu. In the game client.

PS - by the way, if you're going through all of this and you aren't using the latest game client, as well as the latest world server, then *slap :)

Hmm.
In The Universal folder there will be two icons. One starts The Univeral the other now reads "your World" Your World icon is a yellow circle with a lower case "i" in it.
click on that.
World Sever will now open. The planet button to the far right opens the universal client/game.
Using the page up and page down key you should page through the following options:
Continue game
Select avatar
Help
Your World
Exit
If you do not have the line Your World then there is something wrong with the installation of the world client or as you call it "world editor".
Another way to check to see if you have a working version of the World Client/World editor is to fly into a world which has no name - Usually "unnamed - no connection"
Make certain that you have the Unregistered World Server up and running, either minimize it to where a bluish icon with what looks like a 6 or a G is in the system tray (next to your clock, usually the lower right hand corner) or make certain it is up and running on the desktop.
The Unregistered World Server should have come with the World Client download.
You can find that on this page: http://theuniversal.net/worldcreation.php the top item.
It is a pop-up window kind of thing that says "XXX (That would be the name of your world) Unregistered World Server
It will have the following: file Options Stats Tools World Help
beneath that will be a image saying "world sever" next to that a button with an arrow pointing down saying Options (which when clicked extended the window down revealing more stuff) then a button with a planet on it clicking that will open up The universal game client which takes us back to the top of this post.

Something I noticed you seem to have missed reading these posts.YOU HAVE TO OPEN THE CLIENT TO SEE ANYTHING!!!Clicking just on the word editor gets you exactly where your at ,nowhere,if you don't open the client (The Universal)all your gonna get is a dialog box you can't really do much with!!OPEN THE MAIN PROGRAM WITH THE EDITOR RUNNING!
In other words(I know I'm repeating others here):
Step one:Click on "Your World Icon"
Step two:Click on "The Universal"(client)Icon
Step three:on opening screen scroll down to the second to last choice, which should be"Your World"<and click on that.
P.S.:Fooli that link is broken. This one should get you to the page:http://theuniversal.net/worldcreation.php

I can help. Once you've got your buildings.dat file figured out, open your server and go Tools>Buildings Editor. You'll have to select each building, click 'Change Model', double-click your models and textures for each building. Then, once you're on your world, press CTRL twice. You should get a dialog allowing you to build things. You can select a building from here. You'll be prompted for a name, and then one of two things can happen. The building might appear, or depending on your ingame *settings, a construction site thingy will appear that in no way shape or form resembles your building. In this case, you'll have to get the materials it requires and construct the building. (hint: *grantitem PLAYER NAME AMOUNT ITEM will give the materials you request.)
