Reina Roja - (aka: Red Queen) Coming Soon
Reina Roja - (aka: Red Queen) Coming Soon
(moved from announcements since i wanted to allow comments, and it's not really an announcement yet )
coming within the next few weeks to atractor - "C&C style"Strategy, a brand new economic gametype debut.
based on "datanodes" and team participation, featuring fast and long-term play cycles, with climactic endings involving player-participating total planetary destruction, versus those that seek to defend it. reina roja aims to be a variable-paced and unique twist to the normal island econ, with continuing challenges and tasks for both the daily super rich player and the lowly, half broke noob. (note: number of models and load time greatly reduced over previous hedgehog islands for early adopters.)
the story:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10,000 years before fighting erupted on reine blanche, the planet of kuningatar's sun was still only red, and had yet to transform into the massive white star that it would in the time of reine blanche.
during kuningtar's red period, a mysterious group of settlers crash landed on the surface, refugees from a distant, unknown world.
as they began to settle and populate their new home, using technology stored on their ship along with the planet's natural resources, it became apparent that they were not alone... strange, ancient buildings - destroyed nearly beyond the point of repair - lay dormant, waiting for the day when those with the skill and means would arrive to awaken them from their slumber.
reina roja is the story of the nomadic precursor race, their discovery of an even older species on the planet kuningtar, and the subsequent rise and fall of technology and knowledge that would one day resurface and fuel the post-apocalyptic wars of reine blanche.
be the first unlock the secrets of kuningtar, defeat opposing tribes of settlers and claim victory as the ruler of a planet in the midst of a monumental sea change.
(for those of you that remember the island of ultimate unfairness, there's a tie-in that'll come about later )

new screenshot:
note that all these screenshots are clues. visually try to memorize the location of these buildings as best you can. as part of your objective, your team will have to build the technology to explore the planet and track down the location of each of these special buildings, which will help your advancment throughout the game.
kuningtar consists of four islands and five special buildings. find all five buildings and unlock their secrets to achieve victory. however accomplishing the primary and secondary objectives will be a bit more difficult than it might first appear
keep an eye on this page for continuing details as the planet gets closer to public launch.

until your team is ready, stay close to your ship, the first node (Alpha)
in grassy fields you find the wood node (Beta)
a toxic chemical polutes the soil where the stone nodes are found (Chi)
dangerous molton lava is where the steel node is forged (Delta)
and on an island so uninhabitable a spacesuit is required, the ultimate weapon lies dormant, waiting to be unleased (Epsilon)
remember the clues. explore the islands. unlock the nodes.

reina roja - a new player's first steps.
other than going into the destroyed ship and accessing its databanks to learn various level-1 skills, you'll be looking for two particular buildings at the start of your journey. both of which are on the main island near where you start out.
supply house
this allows you to sell player-made grains, local water and raw energy units to create the food, fuel and drink necessary to keep yourselves alive in the early stages of the game. health only affects you when you're in-game, so there's no need to worry about stocking a house or any of that, but you will need to stock up here frequently to keep lively as you work.
materials shed
the materials shed for level 1 purchases player harvested trees and converts it into lumber. as you progress onto further levels, you'll construct new material houses which can produce concrete, steel and additional construction materials. these will help to build new industries, unlock datanodes, and reduce the cost of previously expensive tasks.
more details to come.

based on player comments of past hedgehog islands, i've decided on a few new tactics for the roja map -
on roja, nearly 65% of the land is entirely flat, or close to it, to facillite easy building and fluid camera movement. points of interest however are marked by the steepest cliffs and mountain ranges ever before seen in an island.
this should allow players to carry on with a standard econ game without the "pretty stuff" getting in the way, while still giving you something nice to look at off in the distance.
at least one game challenge however, pictured here, will be presented on a cliff so steep that players will require a "climbing pack" (and later a jetpack) to complete their mission - trying to huff it up and down that mountain would take hours!

update:
you guys have worked together in families before, but that's nothing compared to the teamwork needed to complete a c&c style econ. tonight's update has a few notes on team objectives:
level 1 - create factories to manufacture food, fuel, water and lumber. repair first data node, learn new skills
level 2 - create factories to manufacture concrete, build a boat, aquire climbing suit (for climbing steep cliffs), learn "sailor" skill from data node, aquire chemical mask (for breathing in areas with noxious chemicals).
once you've completed level two you'll have to drive around in your boat looking for a place to go ashore. all areas are surrounded by barriars, so you'll be looking for a breach in the barriar, and land on the dirt / chemical island. after repairing the third node and learning the required skills, you'll equip the climbing suit, locate the next datanode, and make trips back to the mainland for supplies to repair it.
level 3 - create factories to manufacture steel. produce a deep diving suit (for going under the water barriars and repairing buildings underwater). manufacture the lava boots (for walking in lava regions).
once you've finished level three you'll have to dive underneath the sea barriar and wash ashore on the small lava island. here you'll repair the next set of datanodes and learn additional skills. space is tight here, so you'll have to build conservatively. here your team's mission is to manufacture the final construction material, equip a radiation shield and build a jetpack. with the jetpack you can then fly over the next barriar onto a larger island filled with radioactive plants, and construct the final node. by now you're also beginning to construct weapons, and need to start slowing down the other team in order to prevent them from overtaking you.
level 4 - build up weapons, learn the final skills required and develop everythingproof forcefields. once that's accomplished you can jetpack, fly or dive past the final barriar and land on the last remaining island. this island is a secret final destination with tons of weapons and items to stock up on. once your team has equipped these vehicles, complete the final objective of destroying the other team entirely, and become victorious over the island.
note that there will be an alternative ending option, and the winners will be forced to make a choice of where the island should go from there.
all of this along with player/team stats, island details, etc will be shortly posted on the reina roja website, which should be announced in a few days.
