PIRACY! fight back

Post by smithy953! »

Ok I don’t know about everyone else but every now and then when trading in an outer system a rouge player will start to attack these aren’t really pirates and are more annoying than threatening. so I thought we should teach them a lesson and destroy them (maybe get their bounty too) basically if you want to join this agreement/alliance where if a trader is attacked he/she can simply say where they are and who is attacking and if some one is available they will come and help so if you would like to join and help simply go into space and when on the chat option 'main' put;

?setchat stop piracy

and their should be people their and to check who is online put

?chat

Ok good look and trade well

May the economy be with you! :?: :!: :?: :?: :!:

Well, whatever works, but that's probably the point of the trader's guild chat channel (assuming it's working at the moment).

Anyway, yeh... go give those pirates a good kicking :)

Oh pirates, yes they rob i
Took i cargo from me merchant ship
(etc)

bounty is like a penalty and reward system.

if a player blows up an innocent player, they will recieve a bounty as a penalty.
if a player blows up a player with a bounty, then they recieve cash from the player equal to the amount of the bounty as a reward.

smithy be aware that the pirates themselves will probably also join that chat channel to listen in on if someone is being attacked and where so they can try to get a piece of the cargo...I know I would:-)

Yes but there are several problems :
first there isnt enough active players. Someone who stay aware of what's happening in his area isnt like most of those guys that make their own little trade and who will never go by themselves in the heart of the fight.
Second it is too easy to escape when a pirate is chasing u. U can see him coming and be ready for fight or escape when he' next to u. And there isnt any really good weapons (laser is useless when ur target is moving everywhere (=isnt noob)).
Honestly if u want to go piracy, dont do it alone, its 4 x easier if u are with a friend with his own piracy ship (a simple xfighter is enough).

that, i believe, was mits main goal with piracy.
that it would take multiple ships to effectivly bring down other ships instead of it being a solo job.

when your ship gets blown up, the cargo floats in space for a while. any of the piraters can fly over it to pick it up

Has this been implemented yet? I thought the cargo automatically gets transfered to the pirates cargo hold. :?

Since I have become bored of trading for a couple hours a day, I have jumped to piracy to keep myself entertained. During my first day as a pirate I have noticed a couple of things and will add a few suggestions.
1. I agree 100% with Liolepro...The weapons are not yet effective enough. Even now when countermeasures are not working It is almost impossible to kill anyone. Took me 11 missiles and much to much time to take 4000cr from an unsuspecting newb in a transport ( mean huh? :)
2. Lasers do some damage but not enough. With shields down it takes 40-60 hits with a laser( estimation ) to kill someone. Would be nice to lower that number down to 20-40 depending on the ships. Would make lasers, shield, and countermeasures more important.
3. Several times today I was a second away from taking 42 computers away from someone I will leave unnamed. Several times today a second before I took 42 computers from unnamed he quit only to come back 3 seconds later unharmed. Needless to say I was frustrated. ( does small mode have the same effect? ) Also I'm fairly sure i killed someone and I didn't receive my 30 slaves as a reward. Not completely sure I killed him but something to look into.
4. Before someone says anything about me being one sided, these weapon changes would also help traders fight off pirates/ groups of pirates. I think all of this would make a balance between traders and pirates.
5. With this being said, piracy is working good enough right now to fear me :). Although I've only made 4500cr in a day and a half with a few more breaks and a few less quitters that could have easily been 200,000cr. Point being..Watch your back.

P.S. I know most of this has been already mentioned and is on the TDL and the game gods are busy with more important things ( real life ). These are just a few pointers and suggestions for the future.

I wonder, did they take you round the pirate's office to meet the guy from accounts and show you where the photocopier is? :]

Yeh, as we were discussing... I think it might need some slight balancing. The original idea was to encourage people to group together to act as pirates (or to protect trade ships) and that's probably still the best bet, gameplay-wise, but... at the moment there aren't so many people flying about. And it probably should be possible to work as a (han) solo pirate.
kb32a wrote:Several times today a second before I took 42 computers from unnamed he quit only to come back 3 seconds later unharmed.
This might still be work-in-progress. I'm pretty sure the idea is, that if someone quits while under attack, they automatically lose the fight.

...and one of the most important additions will be working police forces (AI, or at least Bad Intelligence).

Bizarrely enough, it's probably quite a useful service you're providing, in a testing-the-gameplay kind of way, so thanks. But if I see you you're dead :p

Another strategy to "escape" from pirates seems to be hitting the esc button while in space. The trader " dissapears" and goes to the start menu only to come back again a few seconds later. This should also count as a automatic loss of cargo. From my experience the pirates seem to be more honest then the traders:) Always trying to find a way to cheat themselves out a a major loss:)
