Post by Sonro »

after playing for about 30 mins, trying to bring up either system map or galactic map results in an error pop-up box "too many secondary overlay boxes added"

additional info:
seems to happen after checking trade reports/in station trade menus, then exiting station.

All menus are closed when accessing map
gives 3 options, abort, retry, ignore.

Abort - closes game
retry - brings back same window
ignore - removes some graphics from system map, inc planet markers and "orbit trajectory markers" - tho planet names remain

Im not able to replicate this un in the current build - I've changed a bit of the space UI recently so its possible it got cleared up in that re-arrangement. Please could you let me know if you still have problems with this in the 0.49.6 beta, whenever that goes up..

this issue hasn't resumed with the installation of the beta - I'm guessing its been inadvertantly fixed :)

Just got the same error for the first time with 49.6 beta1. Have been playing for 30 minutes or so (actually trading, which isn't something I normally do..) - left a station after maybe 4 or 5 previous station visits, hit F5, up comes the error. Click ignore, the map comes up anyway. No boxes apparently left onscreen but it does sorta suggest it isn't clearing them properly, or somethin...

Have a nuke screen command...Hehe>NUKES!
This would cause the screen to refresh the scripted entirely making the screen go blank and reset...WITHOUT exiting the game...

It is possible that this hasn't occured for me since then cos I'm not checking trade reports or opening so many game windows quite so often - it tends to be something that is done a lot more in the earlier stages of trading as prices fluctuate more rapidly and the wider variety of routes is explored. - now I'm just sticking to 2 cargo types on pretty familiar routes, with less competition, its not as necessary to check these things as often

Potentially related... after several hours flying around in space without landing on any planets - just stations - I started losing the comm station menu (click the button, no icons appear). No error message, it just happened after a stardrive. At the same time the F button icons disappeared and the left hand drive icons started flickering, as did the main HUD.

I've also noticed that stardriving sometimes fixes the problem with the map overlays. And sometimes it doesn't. I'm guessin it's all just some big directx thing.

Once again.... similar sort of thing happened today after returning from small mode (seems similar to my inexpert eyes, anyway) but with slightly different results. Just thought it might provide some clues as to what the feck is going on (note bottom of screen):

ye - I've had very similar graphic probs since installing the beta - seems to do it when swiitching between windows, resizing window or going into small mode - planet graphics go kinda screwy too. only fix I've found is to quit game and relog

Not related, but fixed now (for public 49.6).

Still havent managed to get a "too many secondary overlay boxes added" message, or to lose the system map graphics. Ive tried doing what i'd consider a 'normal 30 mins of play' in space (well 60 mins, to be accurate), but no good. If you can find a more definitive way of replicating it, id be interested to know more..

The stardriving bit might be an interesting lead.. tho im currently clueless to why that'd affect it..

found another graphic oddity to do with having the comms icons up, that caused some odd directx missingness and glitchiness. Fixed for 0.49.6 - i suspect this will cover most of the issues raised on this one, so marking as Fixed for now.
