Texmap Setup?

I'm sure there's a topic covering this somewhere but I got tired of looking for it.
How do I setup 16 texmaps to cover the whole map?
What do the texmap settings do in *settings/Landscape Settings?
Texmap Properties
Texmap Env

to make them cover the whole map, you need to drive over the whole map typing .texmap # to lay them on the map in the proper places.
the properties/Environment settings are nothing to worry about at all
just stuff like no damage, no weaps, etc

.autotexmap 16 should also work.... assuming you've set them up in the world server and you've done so in the right order, which I can't tell you what it is cos I've forgotten...
I've a very vague idea that it went something like
4 3 2 1
8 7 6 5
12 11 10 9
16 15 14 13
(in terms of which texmap goes where when you do .autotexmap) Might be wrong, but it was definitely a bit arse about face the way mit wrote that bit of code.

I think I'll try fooli's first then zaroba's. speedy's reply is incomplete.
Tomorrow I'll start messing with texmap even though I don't have a hight map setup yet but its good to know how texmaps work.
I'll let you guys know what results I get.

And it looks like I got the order right but the numbering is from zero:
3 - 2 - 1 - 0
7 - 6 - 5 - 4
11-10-9 - 8
15-14-13-12
(looking at the landscape from the top, obviously, so texmap 3 is placed top left)

Im pretty sure it goes... if were looking at the world from the top down, north being up.
