Directx

Post by Spider »

I need to know the exact directx needed to run a-tractor. Although I have directx 8.0, I still get the following message:

****Error Message****
Direct3D Create Failed. DirectX 8 and compatable video drivers are?

My video drivers are compatible.

If it turns out that directx 8 is what I need, then I'm buggered...

Most likely 8.1 - Why don't you just get 9?

You've obviously been running the game awrite previously, so unless you've changed something in particular on your PC (are you tryin to get it to work on a brand new system or somethin?) there shouldnt be a need to reinstall anything. (Incidentally, any directX from 8.0 onwards should be ok, and nothings changed with that.)

There were various graphical problems with the initial build of 0.1.28 - if you got it when it first came out try regrabbing it now and see if the problem still occurs. (A 0.1.29 will but put up sometime soon to make sure everyone is properly utd). If ya still cant get it to run, maybe try putting everything back to default setup (either by adjusting the options manually or by deleting tractor.cfx & Data\main.opt and re-entering your username and password).

If you're referring to the particular dialog i think you are - the text on there does need to be adjusted methinks. The error is a general startup error, which can be caused by many different things (tho driver compatability does tend to be the most common one for new players).

Btw, one further note : Advanced DirectX Init on the Video options is *NOT* recommended - so if you're using that turn it off pls. The only advantage with Advanced is that it can change your screen resolution without you having to adjust the desktop itself - but generally it will not work as well as the basic init and is more likely to cause crashes in game.
