How to turn the best world ever into the worst world ever.

Post by VDZ »

I'm sure Zaroba can give you a tutorial.
Check FFA Combat if you need an example.

VDZ you seem to have strong views on how a world should be. why don't you put your money where your mouth is and get a world and make one eh? then we can go around saying VDZ'S RUINED THIS! or VDZ'S WORLDS RUBBISH...

like you did to FFA and RB3

"Ok, gimme a world then." is a sentence equivalent to goin on to Zion and asking for a free 1000s. :)

making a world isen't exactly easy you know. depending on how you want it anyway.

an incredibly simple island like FFA only takes an hour to set up easily. spent more on the models then on the buildings file here.
if you look at an island like zoric, nearly each zoric i've made took about a week to do. mostly its making the buildings file
if you take an island like Hedges reine whatever, your looking at several weeks if not more then a month of work. mostly because of all the graphics he made, altered, and tested over and over before sticking them down. it woulden't surprise me at all if hedge had a test island running right now already designing the next reine.

if you want an island, thier are no templets to go by at all. everything you see on the island is made from scratch. you start with 0 buildings, 0 settings, 0 models, isen't even a ground or height map yet.

I thought it'd be longer.
Only a few weeks for a Zoric kind of island...

I usually spend 10 hours per day on the computer as well.
If D3D isn't required for some parts of making the world, then it will be more than 10 hours.

Zars an experienced world owner, so what takes him 1 week takes most people 2 or even 3. especially the buildings.dat file which when i was looking at it, it was fun, but hard to sue, especially when u have to make about 40-50 buildings for an economy island, all using stuff makeing stuff producing stuff and they all have to interlock. Then there the ground textures, the map, then there the world setings, the economy settings, the vehicle settings, the crow settings, the other millions of miscellaneous settings!

its really a long process, and you have to keep looking through the manual to find out stuff, and new settings and stuff that has to be set up. It looks easy... but it ain't

P.S. everything was better in 0.03.5 mit

apparently :?

Could the server have the island size limited? If so you could allow people to run much smaller worlds for free. That way people can get a chance to play around with making a world and encourage them to make worlds, thus encouraging them to pay for the much bigger worlds. When i say small, i mean extremly small as in town sized (well maybe 4 towns sized :P ).

You could also set it up so only the owner could play on it (ie the client could look for a world running on the players computer). That would mean if they wanted others to play there world they would have to pay. I would also assume that the setting from the smaller world could be transferred to the larger pay'd for world so they would only have to work on the landscaping aspect and not the building's.

The aim is to release a free 'island' server - a limited version of the world server that lets you play around with the landscape, models n suchlike, but limits access to other features like settings and buildings. And yeh.. it'd have limits about the number of ppl who can reach it to encourage ppl to upgrade to the full world server.

No promises when that'll be available.. sometime after the website and the other new stuff has been running publicly for a while.

only 10 hours vdz? i hate to say this, but all i basically do is computer.

if i were given an island, i wouldnt spend only 1 hour on it. id spend, at a minimum, of at least 168 hours on configuration and all the setup details.

everyone would have to buy their own property, and the properties would be islands, it would be extremely realistic.

id have like people could rob people, if the people getting robed had a security system (which they needed to buy and stock in their house to not get robed) the person trying to rob would get phony up and blown up by cops (hell yea id put cops in). and i got all other kind of radical shinola id put it
