Anyone ever made a completely first person shooter planet? I do believe that when I get a registered planet I'm going to make one. One concern so far being that in first person mode some of the models animations throw polygons out in front of the camera just ever so slightly.

Drellis is about as close as we've got so far. I can't vouch for how well it plays, but as you point out, there are some fairly annoying graphical issues with anything first-person. The polys you see wouldn't normally be there on a first-person model, but even so, it's the camera clipping them poorly that's at fault, I think.

There are ways around it: simply tweaking the camera height is one. Put the camera on top of the player's head and you probably won't see any errant polys.

Also, I keep meaning to try using the LoD system to see if that would work (like, have the highest detail restricted to 1m or something, so you basically only see if on yourself - and make that model like a standard fps model (just a hand and a gun, for example). Then use the medium & low LoDs as normal to display all other players.

Excellent idea. Eventually, down the line when I get to that point, would you mind assisting me with such a model, Fooli?
