On the 'game history' page:
Mit wrote:A monkey-like creature, now known to some as Mit, was given a ‘Vic-20’ many years ago, thanks to a bizarre annual gift-exchanging ritual. For some reason, Mit wasted many months on this glorified calculator trying to get small graphical characters to move randomly around the screen. And ever since, Mit has continued to write these so-called "computer games" as a hobby and 'professionally'. (Mostly only in the most monetaristic sense of the word :]).

Late in 2000, Mit took a short break from working on Playstation & PS2 games and started on a new project, a PC game which, mainly to annoy people, was called A Tractor. Since 2001, development of this game continued as a spare time project.

If there were aims at the start, (and many would argue there weren’t), they were to combine the concepts of the virtual worlds described in books by William Gibson, Neil Stephenson etc, with the accessibility and playability of a game like Subspace (a favourite at the time, which has inspired much of the progress of The Universal, and which is still very much worth playing if you're into 'proper', 'old-style' gaming). At the same time, the idea was to create a world where others could experience the enjoyment you can get from making as well as playing games.

Since then things have got a bit out of hand :] The original A Tractor has evolved into The Universal. Where first there was a single world, now there’s a whole galaxy to explore. Originally there was just one vehicle to control, now theres an unlimited amount. Instead of one guy drinking and coding away merrily, now theres a bunch of different ppl working on different bits and drinking whiskey all over the world.

Grab the download, if you haven't already, and find out exactly what it is that happens when a bunch of monkeys get together and make themselves a universe.
On the 'credits' page:
Mit wrote:Credits

The Universal is developed by a core group of people distributed around the world, all of whom work on the game in their spare time:

Mit: the creator and lead programmer
Device: coding, tools and networking support
Magicfinger: coding, tools & web development, including this site and our bug tracking system
Hedgehog: art, textures, hosting, webstuff, bug reporting, world design and more
Fooli: 3d modelling, sound and host of the galaxy
