down loaded an update to universal this morning and there have been a few changes , the main one being only teams can use weapons ! OK I know this is in part to solve the problem of noobs shooting everything in sight in cluding other noobs that have hardly got going and are put of before they get a chance to get started .
thats good .
So off I goes to ZION to find out how to "join a team" as my weapons nolonger work effectivly leaving me defenceless ( as although I have working CM ) I would be unable to return fire or even have a chance of recovering my cargo in the event of my losing the fight !
I should point out that I only use weapons for defence - if attacked I fight and then only to save my cargo .
I was offered a place in a "pirate" team but unfortunatly almost all their rules went against my principles
dont get me wrong I like "pirate" side of the game BUT I prefer dodging to fighting .( its just not my thing )
so where do I join a trading team ?
or can I start a trading team ?
resent rule changes ! to the space game
It doesn't work like that for me.
The latest patch provides the admin tools to let people run "fight nights" and so on. Not to make all weapons everywhere depend on being in a team. That stuff is activated on a system-by-system basis (by "System Guardians" that have these powers granted to them by the staff). So it depends which system you're in.
For example, Magrathea's system (where mit's dev world is) has it in operation; but go to Zion, and it's back to normal. For me, anyway. If that's not the same for you - and you have the latest patch - you may have found a bug.

Of dear who would believe it ? It just happened to be magrathea that I had "materialsed" back into after the "patch" and the first thing I noticed was "no weapons" !
600+ star system to choose from ?
its says in the message screen :-
stars system mode 1 : only players on a team can use weapons , the system guardian allocates players to a team
I had no idea what "mode 1" was ?
the term "only players on a team can use weapons" is plain enough ! i.e. no team-no weapons ?
which meant I had to find the "system guardian" as he would alocate me to a team ?
of course I had no idea "who the system guardian" was , I thought "system" was a reference to the entire system , BUT I can see no that only refers to the "star system""
I never tried my weapons outside the MAGRATHEA system (As I knew they was dissabled as I was not "in a team|") .
convusing or what ?
I think I have figured it out now !
I should get the "hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" , ! am sure there is a reference to MAGRATHEA , something to do with making luxury planets ?

In Hitchhiker's, Magrathea is indeed a world famed for building luxury planets. In the game it's the name of Mit's personal development world, where he tests a lot of stuff he's working on. As such it's a quite a fitting name.
/edit: and yeh, apparently Deep Thought was also on Magrathea, seven and a half million years before Arthur gets there. Oh the fun of it all ;)

Don't have that but got all the books and the new movie. I think the movie didn't really give the atmosphere the books have got so I prefer reading them. It's good that they're in-game thoughnostradarmus wrote:Dont foget milliways "the restraunt at the end of the universe"
Yep I have the DVD`s of the orginal seires (I must be soft in the head ?)
How many worlds aren't Hitchhiker related then? If it's more than a quarter, I'll keep the name of the planet I'm working on.

*mit enters drunk trivia mode
i thought deep thought was elsewhere - magrathea being the planet making place, with the earth n stuff, but wasnt deep thought a separate thing involving all the philosophers and whatnot? :] (I'll give 10 prestige to anyone who can prove me right, tho im probably not )
oh what a fascinating conversation for anyone who doesnt care :]
Milliways.. now theres an idea

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Places_in_ ... #Magrathea
Magrathea is a planet whose inhabitants built customized planets (using matter excreted from white holes) for tremendous amounts of money, making Magrathea one of the wealthiest planets in the galaxy. It was the Magratheans who constructed the planet-sized computer named Earth (for a race of hyperintelligent pandimensional beings, the mice) to determine the ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything, which is required to understand the Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. But when the great galactic stock market crash occurred, the Magratheans went into hibernation awaiting the recovery of the economy to the point where their services could once again be afforded. They were later awakened for the reconstruction of the Earth (the Earth, Mk. II).
Magrathea orbits the twin stars of Soulianis and Rahm in the Horsehead Nebula.
One of the chief Magrathean planet designers is called Slartibartfast, and he designed the coastline of Norway. (He enjoyed doing the crinkly bits and fjords.)
In the radio series and TV series, Magrathea is the location of Milliways, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
In the computer game produced by Infocom, you complete the game once you land on Magrathea.
