universal advertising
everytime i play the universal (whether morning, afternoon, or night) I have always noticed the most players on that i have seen is about 17 players at once.
I know it might be expensive, but u guys might want to advertise a little more, which might cause u to advertise here. But u can make it advertise on only certain pages.
Anyway, i play on Zoric mostly, and their is usually only one more player. it would be fun though that there are more than 1 or 2 players on worlds like zoric

I have a good perspective about this whole new player thing, since I've only been playing for about 3 weeks now. It's not a difficult game to get the hang of, but the in-game tutorials are a bit hard to understand. Eventually you get the hang of it.
For the most part people were helpful to me and willing to help if I had any questions. Some people didn't play nice with me being a newbie coughMishkacough but overall people were very helpful.
My suggestion to the players who wish to have new players come to the game would be to write up tutorials and turn them into the Admin so that they may be placed on the site or in-game. Players perspectives and tutorials are often much more helpful than the Admin's point of view.
Also if you wish to be a pirate, then it would be difficult for you to help new players due to the newbies ending up being hunted down by you. There might be some moral conflicts.
Maybe a large space station in Cirrus Minor where there could be a galactic bar so that people could hang out to help new players. A place to hang out for a time when trading get's boring.

Ok buddy, now what did I do to you??? And we SR ( Pirate ) help newbies always, so its not so imposible, but please tell me what did I do to you?? Coz I am helping every newbie I can.
Not that I really want to take away from the topic, but there were about 5 or 6 people that decided it was enjoyable to blow me up when I was just learning the whole space thing. You were one of them. That's all.
I was just stating that as a Pirate it would be harder to help newbies who weren't newbie pirates. That's all, since you might end up with a conscious and not have the distance between you and other players that one person who doesn't help people might have.

Sorry anyways, maybe I was angry and took it out on you, I don't know but sorry. What keeps bumping me is that I don't remember attacking you Hmmm.Sab wrote:Not that I really want to take away from the topic, but there were about 5 or 6 people that decided it was enjoyable to blow me up when I was just learning the whole space thing. nothing is stopping you guys from telling your friends or family members about the game. nor is anything stopping you from telling about it in other games you play, chat rooms you goto, or forums you visit. and nothing here is preventing you from making and hanging signs around school, work, or other public places.
when i worked as a cashier, i would often write 'theuniversal.net' on bills.
now that i work in a warehouse, i sometimes write it on the boxes of stuff before they get shipped to stores.

i like ur ideas, but the crowd i hang with isnt with the idea of the universal. they're CSer's (CounterStriker's), and they r to "rich" (too much Wii's and xbox 360's) to get downloaded games like this off the web. Mit and the other admins should think of web advertising, were most people r. It is hard to post up poster's or tell friends and ending the game turning out less than it was described, especially bcuz it is still in development. Personally, im starting to natrually drift from the universal bcuz of it's lack of players.

I'm starting to get bored too, mostly because of that and it's still needing a few features to keep me going but hey, I'm still playing so farkillkill wrote:i like ur ideas, but the crowd i hang with isnt with the idea of the universal. they're CSer's, and they r to "rich" (too much Wii's and xbox 360's) to get downloaded games like this off the web. Besides, I'm guessing most people who search for online games are looking for free ones and therefore, advertising lets you target a large majority of people. Even google ads would help, they're everywhere these days, message boards, websites, portals, rpg's etc.
I'd even contribute to the payment if i can and depending how much (since I'm a student)
thats where the chat rooms, forums, other games, etc online that you visit come into play. if you have a site, you could put a banner for the game on it. on forums, you could put the game link in your sig and just post alotkillkill wrote:Mit and the other admins should think of web advertising, were most people r.
just because mit owns the game doesn't mean he has to be the only one advertising it.
also, advertising costs money, if you like the game, help advertise it. or donate money so mit can buy 'official' advertising.
you could also write letters or e-mails to gaming webs, magazines, etc to get them to come take a look at the game. i'm sure thats how the game got into pcgamer.
