Description:
I was carrying cargo to Zion, in Cirrus Minor. My ship was attacked and destroyed.

I understood that this system and the nearby one were "safe zones" where there could be no combat. If that's true, something's wrong!

Well, if I was'nt in Cirrus Minor, the stardrive didn't work. I had used it to move to Cirrus Minor, and was in the long cruise across sytem to Zion.

So maybe I've fingered the wrong bug...

of course, you can use lazers in cirrus, just not missiles... if you dont have a shield arlready get one , i believe zion has them

Yep, that's true. Sinve the new versions came out you can use lasers at the protected systems but not missiles. So it is not a bug.

The Website documentation, which I read before beginning to play, still says this (today):

the star system you start in is a safe place where weapons are banned

How does that say, "you can use lasers in cirrus"

Pretty hard to play the game if the rules are not clear!

Maybe this isn't a bug, but it's not what the docs say!

this just started the past week or so to my knowledge... not sure EXCACTLY when lazers were enabled, but.. yep.

Maybe the ducumentation is not updated. That is Mit's problem not mine. But since the new version is allowed lasers are allowed everywhere. I heard something that they are going to put AI police. If its true they will be all over the noob zone and we pirates will have some competition. And it will be fun. :D

It's a change that seems to have happened in the last week or so. I'm not sure I agree with it :) Anyway, we need to update the docs, yeh. Sorry about that.

Ja, iit would take +30ish trade runs (or atleast something like that) to get the needed money for a shield (and you need a lot more money to remain trading at the same level, not to mention that an infimp is probably of higher priority).

IMO bounties don't really serve to stop aggressors, especially since there aren't that many people to claim the bounties.

well its kinda hard to claim a bounty when half the ppl with high bounties use f1 and logg off when attacked and when they logg back on they have full hull% and you just wasted missiles and time trying to kill them i think if countermeasures was working then half the ppl who are attack would stay for the fight maybe maybe not :x

Perhaps Mit'll clarify these changes for us.

- I think it's unfair to allow lasers when it takes a good while to build up enough creds for a shield. EIther we ban all weapons as before, or we give people a starting shield. As the message has changed (from "weapons are not allowed" to "missiles are not allowed") I assume it's been done on purpose. It's possible Mit hasn't finished the whole dynamic yet. It's equally possible he was drunk and it just doesn't work too well :)

- as far as I know, if someone's in combat and they log off, they should automatically lose - their bounty, or their cargo. As if they were destroyed in combat. Maybe Mit hasn't written/finished that yet... or it's broken.

- countermeasures are still broken?

and another odd thing not sure if this is a bug or not but i killed a player in MechZone he was far out there and after i got his cargo i went Zion to sell it and CoolBiker was asking me how did i kill him in a *safe zone* at the time everyone was running the old vesion.....i thought he might have went afk and forgot to use auto pilot bot come to find out he was in Zion system the whole time i kinda feel bad after that he never came back to play or if he did he changed his name

yes, counters are still busted.

whats the point in allowing lasers if shields come standard :D

it is a touchy balance, protcting the starters from malicious pirates. maybe cirrus should ban both, and the other core systems allow only lasers.

I suppose there are lots of ways to do it. In my mind, yer basic shield should withstand a few hits, potentially giving you enough time to run away. Although we don't really have a running away dynamic at the moment... it'd only make sense if the starting ship was actually faster than anything other than an asteroid.

The only real solution for a new player would be to dive into a planet... now that's a perfectly valid defense, i'd say.

Countermeasures - I don't know if they're truly broken or if Mit just keeps forgetting to fix the interface (he broke/hid the counters icons a couple of versions ago)

id say that is a good stradegy works fine for with 65k bounty and if ye keep getting kicked from the planet keep trying to land until you get the white screen after about 10-15 minutes most ppl will think you logged off :D

Still, don't lie to try and get your cargo back. There's no way to stardrive back to Cirrus in one jump from m-259 no matter what stardrive you have. The stardrive works fine.

You do bring up a good point about the incomplete docs, but you're making up bugs that don't exist or have nothing to do with how you lost your cargo. :roll:

Well, maybe there's something more complex going on, which may be impossible to verify or duplicate. Fact 1: I had used infimp to jump to zerg (m-209, right?). Fact 2: I had used stardrive to cirrus minor. Fact 3: I was ion driving across cirrus minor to zion, and was nearly there. I don't know how you (in m-259) saw and attacked me in cirrus minor. But that's where I was.

You're presuming a lot about what I was thinking. I refuse to presume anything about your motives...

As for cargo, this is a beta, and I'm expecting nothing "back" - life happens.

just cause you blew him up there doesn't mean somebody else didn't blow him up in cirrus.
either way, its not a bug.
