Actually this is kinda related to your MSN thing. We have lots of guides that were started and (for whatever reason) not completed, or aren't up to date. Add to that the in-game web guide, text guides to worlds, text guides to space stuff, and fansites, and there's no one place to go for anything. We even asked people to help us by contributing their own advice (world owners specifically) and hardly anyone did...

Anyway, that explains my negative reaction to the ring idea: you should get game help in-game, which means we should fix up the in-game help. The Guide is supposed to be the place you get that from, and all the info in the kbase ought to make its way there... eventually. However this is a spare-time project, and a lot of the time development continues faster than we can document it. A lot of the kbase is actually a couple of years old. End result: the help situation we have today.

Don't look to hedge to fix it - that's not going to happen while he's mostly AFK. I'll do it as soon as I'm able to sit down with mit and get him to explain exactly what's what... In the meantime a much better idea is just to post your questions in the help forum or ask people you see around the place.

i think mainly people can't be arsed cause there's not much prestige to writing the stuff.

probably more important than documentation in the beginning is figuring out a list of what needs to actually be documented. then perhaps motivating folks with in-game rewards or something for picking something from the list and documenting it, providing the submission is accepted and isn't just OMG UNIVERSAL AWESUMMMM FLY AROUND POOP PEE FANNYPAX!!!

my .02 is get some wiki software, import the 25 different incomplete sources into it, and toss that in the in-game help browser. heck, even i would prolly add a few entries on the stuff i still know about.
