Luckily I still have the 0.46.3 install and the 0.46.6 beta patch, so I'll use those until this is fixed.

My graphics card drivers are completely up to date, and I have DirectX 9.0c.Kirby wrote:Seems fine to me.
As far as I've seen (or maybe I just didn't notice it) is that The Universal had a Graphical update so maybe check if you have the latest graphic card drivers?
Might be a Direct X issue...'unno..
By the way, I'm talking about how most of the text is unreadable.
looks like the game is referencing some old files to me.. all the new fonts were included in the patch.. are you sure you extracted the whole zip, including the subfolders?
Might be worth trying the full install again if you havent already..
If theres still a problem, please recheck that the install path and the working directory of any shortcuts you have match up - scrag had a problem t'other day because he was updating Program Files/TheUniversal but his desktop shortcut was pointing to an old folder (Program Files/universal)..

I didn't use the patch, just a full install after uninstalling the old version and deleting its folder in C:\Program Files which is what I do for every program or game, even if I don't need to.Mit wrote:looks like the game is referencing some old files to me.. all the new fonts were included in the patch.. are you sure you extracted the whole zip, including the subfolders?

I know this from experince that uninstalling the universal doesn't complety uninstall everything in that folder. Why? Cause the installer just refers to the files it installed, not the things you download on other worlds. Maybe tractor.cfx too and some others...
Try this: Uninstall,go to Program Files->TheUniversal and delete that folder complety (and any other with the name "The Universal") then re-install.
If this doesn't work then it be that full installer there...

That's exactly what I said I did in my post above yours.Kirby wrote:I know this from experince that uninstalling the universal doesn't complety uninstall everything in that folder. Why? mm. yeh.. im a bit stumped on that one really..
tho the fonts have changed for this vers, the actual rendering code hasnt changed at all.. if its a completely clean install then i cant think of any reason why it would be any different from the previous versions.
mmmm........ time to put my confused cap on and hope for a moment of enlightenment....

Here it is:

I'm hoping you find something wrong, because then it can be fixed... hopefully. It will suck if I can never use a version newer than 0.46.6.

ATTENTION! The text in The Universal version 0.47.0 now works perfectly for me, and I can even see the real icons in the top left corner! I saw the icons on my version 0.46.6, was about to make a post about it, and then I started to think that, since the icons worked, that the text in version 0.47.0 might, but I was doubtful. Well, to my surprise, I was right. The part I'm stumped about is, how does it work now when it didn't before? Even after I ran the DxDiag, I couldn't see the icons. I had just started the uninstall of Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise edition. I opened The Universal, connected to Sabrada, and after staring for a while at the screen I noticed the icons. They weren't the real ones before I started that uninstall, or I would've noticed it when I was playing The Universal earlier.

On that topic the link to my screenshot is broken, because I deleted it a while back. By the way, I never noticed that second post you made which is why I just replied to it.
EDIT! The text and the icons are screwed up again now. It worked for a while, even when I closed the game and opened it again it still worked. I don't get it.
Back to version 0.46.6 I go... hopefully not permanently. Don't worry about it, because my onboard S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR card is unsupported by most games I play. I'll most likely need to buy a new card.
They were always like that and I never knew they didn't look right, until one day I saw a screenshot from someone else, and that's when I made a topic about it. You should remember since you posted in it.Mit wrote:actuallly... lookin again at that 2nd pic i notice your top left icons are fecked up too. Has that always been the way or is that somethin new with this vers?

Thanks to Mit's lucky confused cap, I can now use version 0.47.0.Mit wrote:mm. yeh.. im a bit stumped on that one really..

There isn't a full install for version 0.46.6 because it was not a full release, only a beta patch released to beta testers. The patch needs to be extracted into the Clients folder of the 0.46.3 version to update it to version 0.46.6. I hope the developers don't mind me sharing it, since the people who can't use version 0.47.0 would probably like to have the newest compatible version possible.

dont mind that being shared till this problem is sorted. (but please delete it as soon as it is)
That dxdiag report is unfortunately completely useless.. (Thanks, microsoft :] ).
Theres a program called 'dxcapsviewer.exe' that does give me some more useful which might help solve this one..
http://monkeycollection.com/DXCapsViewer.exe
.. if you don't already have it.
Could you run that, and do 'File -> Print Whole Tree to file' and post me the results please?
If this doesnt help, i may need to write a little mini-program to try out a few of the font rendering things i could use, and see which ones compatable.
oh.. one last possibility.. could you try a few of the options in the small menu -> Options -> Graphic Options.
Turning on/off or changing one of the following options may have an effect. If it does (or if none em have any effect), please lemme know..
Use Texture Filtering / No Texture Filtering
Anisotropic Filtering
Use 32 bit textures
Disable Point Render
Filtering Modes - (Point/Point/Point is most likely to do something)

As soon as I get my own computer I'll be installing Linux on it as well as Windows, for those certain things that won't run with a windows emulator.Mit wrote:Donchya jus love windows
