just a few answers for those that're around and wondering about hedgehog worlds:
* a major storm hit our area and completely fried my old computer. not only were the worlds and about 3 years of textures wiped completely off the face of the planet, but i wound up losing about a year of photographs, bookmarks, life, etcetera. it was an unhappy time.
i've since bought a ridiculously fancy expensive UPS and surge protector. in the event of a power outage i can stay online for a considerable amount of time (ie: over an hour)
as a result, reine blanche - the mech warriar world, is totally wiped. nothing exists of it unless someone had a cache of it somewhere in their client.
roja on the other hand, if i were to bring it back up, it'd basically have to be roja from the backup i made last february. this'd be roja as it was just before i moved (or it could get rolled back to just before launch)
if i put roja back online, i'd have to first:
a] reregister it on my new computer (no idea how to do that)
b] fix any and all version & settings compatibility issues between the february version of the client/server and the current one (there were numerous ones)
c] remember the few modifications we made to the bdat since everybody hated how effin' hard it was initially.
in the time it'd take me to pull all that off, i might as well just build a new world. or bring back the old rb2 or 3 as best i can find the files (with the boats and the offshore timberyards and the pirate chaos boxes, etc).
i've got a ton of work on my plate still though, and i've no idea how to actually sign up for a new world or reregister my existing one atm, so it'll probably be somethin' i figure out and chip away at over the comin' months.
working on a few new textures though.
in the meantime, a favor request for anyone that has the time:
if possible, please look in your client's data\models\ folders for any jpegs starting with rb, rr, rb5, and things of that nature. you'll probably reckognize them as models and textures from reine blanche and reina roja.
if you manage to locate any of the ones from reine blanche, i'd be interested in maybe arranging a file transfer (possibly including the map and land texture files as well if you can find them), so that i can get back some of the textures and potentially rebuild small portions of my library.
i'm still hoping to come back; at the moment i've got two websites to finish and a new camera to purchase. after about eight months though my apartment's finally starting to get that comfy lived-in feeling.
hope everyone's doin well; sorry we didn't get roja to go the full year, i just didn't really plan on massive electrical storms, heh.

Ack...Been there. Sometimes I have to defrag me drive at least once a year just to clear up junk.
Backups are goood...maybe you should invest in a DVD-Burner? (I need to anyway )
Eh,anyways I'll put up a temp. link of what I got including maps. What's not included is anything not an image file. (e.g. .atm) I can add em' up if ya need to.
Edit: Link Fixed

EDIt: I can see that you guys have the reine stuff pretty much already taken care of... For some reason I can't delete this post. If one of the staff could do it for me I be thankful

With a whopping 5 megabytes of data transfer per day...djaj1988 wrote:to share with everyone you should go to this site that allows you to upload .zip and pictures:http://www.ripway.com/

cheers for that; i've grabbed it if you wanna take it down and save space on yer server.Kirby wrote:Ack...Been there. Sometimes I have to defrag me drive at least once a year just to clear up junk.

Clicks the site it does.
yeah i've got a dvd burner on the new comp. i dunno, i used to do backups on CD but they always get scratched to shinola and become worthless anyway. external drives seem to be where it's at, but after losing two internal ones this year alone, i'm skeptical.
pretty soon i'll be buying tape drives. it's kind of lame when you have to transform your house into a full fledged datacenter just to save a few files from the internet.
edit: hmm. actually the zip looked corrupt? it was only about 7kb...
edit-edit: ah okay, read the above.

I can probably recall most of the stuff related to reina roja and/or send you the files I have on that. Funny I was going to create a program on my graphing calculator that would list all the stats on reina's buildings back when it was up but I never got around to it...This computer must have a spread sheet somewhere... Found the spreadsheet...as for the reina bdat what exactly do you need?
Choose from this list:
Production quantities, Production Costs*, Production times*, input to output makeing quanities, storage amounts*, building contruction info...
If you theres something else I forgot, go ahead and mention it. (* marks choices which are effected by current labor amount at building and will be harder to get specifics on) It's late so I won't be working on the info tonight but if you tell me what you want I can spend some time on it tomarrow. It would save me time if you can send me or post a list of buildings you know that were edited. (post here if you send me e-mail.)

mostly i'm just interested in graphics files atm. looking through this backup further, i've got the bdat and settings and even the models and textures for roja as of february. so i guess it's reine blanche i'm largely hoping to salvage something from at this point.fhko wrote:I can probably recall most of the stuff related to reina roja and/or send you the files I have on that. well, i've got save files of worlds that were previously up. about three years worth of random worlds that've been built.
the original hedgehog world i no longer have, and it was mostly a mess of fake walls and other dumb landscape tricks. people mostly came 'round to hang out and blow up the giant sheep while playing hornball.
island of ultimate unfairness was a pre-reine and reina world that stuck people on a solitary island surrounded by others. early objectives were to build a boat (boats were terribly difficult to build and therefore only one could be made every week or so), and then send out one elected team member to explore the remainder of the world for resources, bringing back any items found. didn't work so hot mainly because we had a fixed world size there, and all the treasures were found rather quickly. still, the initial boat building part was quite fun. i think there's still some screenshots around.
rb1 was a military CTF fighting island with a racetrack.
rb2 was a C&C style econ warfare island that included defense turrets and mostly revolved around boats with long distance weaponry. it was around here that the different gov. resource buildings began being color coded and referred to as wood house, brick house, etcetera. this one was an odd and unanticipated success early on while i was away on vacation, though towards the middle, participation dipped a bit as construction got more difficult and a few power-players grew out of owning particularly rewarding buildings. attendance soared on the final day however, when the final weapons were unlocked and team battle began. we've got a video with music that's rather large, but documents the end-battle pretty well.
rb3 played around the same concept, but the two teams were separated even further, and the introduction of a supply center that you fed items into for resources was introduced. boats were still used quite a bit for reaching the offshore timber storage. this was probably the most popular hedgehog world overall, with consistent attendance from start to finish, and a grand finale that hit my cable modem's ceiling on how many players it could handle (people started getting kicked around 25). this is probably my second favorite world (second to the newest reine which is now sadly unrecoverable).
rb5 was the recent mech level, and the econ world moved over to reina roja (which was i guess considered the fourth in the series, hence the version jump for rb), where the econ became ridiculously abstracted in an effort to reduce a single griefer or two from hoarding everything (mostly inspired by tom's habit of getting the really expensive key building everyone needs and then jacking the prices up intolerably, or setting them to not sell at all, and only coming in to do his transfers). it worked in that people had to form small groups or gangs (similar to the families on other econ worlds), however like most econs, the problem was that instead of one super griefer, we wound up with one supergang: people largely wound up just following the superteam, rather than members of it defecting or doing much of anything interesting.
there were a few other more minor worlds, but that pretty much brings us up to speed on what i could partially dig up from the archives.
