Reina Roja Launch Thread

Post by hedgehog »

yep, as of midnight this evening, the password's off. and providing there's no unavoidable downtime that extends the window, it'll run until january 18th, 2006, 12:00am.

no island resets. no player resets (unless of course you die). no tweaks to the economy after the first few days. thassit. one year.

QUICK REMINDER:

YOU MUST JOIN A TEAM.

EASTERN PLAINS = GROUND VEHICLES + CHEAP FOOD
FIRE VALLEY = BOATS + CHEAP FUEL
POLAR CLIFFS = PLANES + CHEAP DRINKS

(see the promo thread for more details)

first off, a warning: if you're installing the model pack to avoid the downloads, there's a bug i have to correct in the installer (and likewise, the mirrors will need to update once i do that).

when starting the installer, on the first page, you'll see this:
Image

you need to change the install path to:
Image

or it won't work.

list of sites you can download the installer from (much thanks to leigon for the T1 mirrors, and all who mirrored. thanks):

Read before downloading:
Please can you chose a mirror that represents your connection type. This is to shaire bandwith between the servers so can 56k'ers and ISND'ers stick to the bottom mirrors please. And if needed to you can always use a download acsellarator between all of them to share the bandwith.

Broadband ready mirrors:
mirror1.leigon.co.uk/ReinaFull.exe (leigon - fast T1 line)
mirror2.leigon.co.uk/ReinaFull.exe (leigon - fast T1 line)
mirror3.leigon.co.uk/ReinaFull.exe (leigon - fast T1 line)
awayfromkeyboard.com/ReinaFull.exe (hedgehog - T1 unmetered, 5gb cap)

56k/ISDN ready mirrors:
alienbraincookies.com/ReinaFull.exe (fooli - 64kbps)
leigon.co.uk/ReinaFull.exe (leigon - 24kbps)
device.dyndns.org/tractor/ReinaFull.exe (device - 24kbps)
zen44512.zen.co.uk/ReinaFull.exe (fooli - Unknown)

please of course report any broken links or failed mirrors, etc etc.

and now, a few things in really big red text:

Image

reccomended "first" buildings:

sandworm ranch - trade to harvesters.
power plant - trade to generators.
supply plant - trade to water pumps.

and

Image

finally, a known issue:

a] crows don't work.

actually, they don't work anywhere in the game at the moment. it's a gamebug that'll hopefully get sorted in the weeks to come.

(before i forget, and fyi, you need about five players to start up the econ for a given team. it's not just gonna fall together in 30 seconds.)

I'd like to request a reset on reina roja. It seems my character is bugged. When I landed there today I had no items, and only 102s. I was told it was because I had tried entering the planet while it was locked, which is nice and all, but how the hell am I supposed to know if a planet is locked or not without actually going there. I am sure I'm not the only one who's done this considdering the planet has sat in the beginner system for a few weeks, and was locked most that time.

You have stated a "No Reset" policy, but isn't it warrented in these kinds of situations?

a lot of players are saying things to the tune of "the building isn't holding what it says it will!" or "my building stopped producing!"

these "problems" are 99.999% due to no one being employed at the building in question.

storage reduction percentage means that if the building isn't at the full five workers, it doesn't store to it's full potential. that means if you want say, the generator or the a player owned supply plant to take all of your empty canisters or chemical B, you've got to get all your fellow players learning the required skills, and hire them up.

i'd up the max jobs, but 4 is the max the game seems to allow. recruiting more players continues to be the best idea. while more players means more mouths to feed and it's an exponential kind of issue, there are reasonable plateaus within the system.

in short: you guys need to apply for more jobs :)

i've updated the faq with this.

Yeah, I figured that out, however since it wasn't ever really stated anywhere what those little icons mean, it is a bit too late.

Aside from the fact that a padlock is a fairly universal symbol for "locked" or "password protected", the new help files in the next client should make it a bit clearer.

I guess I failed to mention that I have to shrink the window so damn small that I can barely read text let alone tell a padlock from just an amorphous grey box that appears for the 3 seconds I'm in range of that planet. (I took notice after it was too late...)

The situation has been fixed... May we move on now?

Heh.

Any particular reason why you have "to shrink the window"?

er... right. Well, unless you're using a window sizer to keep it in proportion you'll probably make a dramatic reduction in performance by shrinking the window :)

If you want to increase performance, run at a lower resolution, reduce your drawdistance, turn off reflections and transparencies, texture filtering and 32-bit rendering. Fullscreen is usually faster than windowed, too.

Fooli I've done all that, the only way I can run some planets in full screen is if I drop drawdist down to 25 or so. At that point I have to be right on top of stuff to even see them. Anything less than 100 draw dist is totally useless on war worlds, anything less than 200 still leaves you seeing them well after they see you.

Unless you plan on making a donation to buying a new computer, there isn't anything viable to make the situation better. So can we move on now?

One or two people have had this problem. There are two map modes: the first is simple, just a plain outline of the world etc. The second mode is a proper image of the way the world itself looks, with textures etc: this is the one causing some ppl problems. It's on the bug list... can't immediately think of a workaround at the moment - the reina map is kinda essential to the game (it has locations of places and buildings etc on it) so it's not as if Hedge can just use the simpler mode. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I suppose you could run the game windowed and look at the map file in a browser window or something... hardly ideal but it might help for now.

I make one suggestion...

Get rid of skills that you need to fly/sail/drive or raise the skill limet past 3...

I don't think a person should have to berid of one of his skill slots just to beable to use their vehicles... Also I think it should be possible to get rid of your first skill, as it may need to go later on in the game...
