question(s) about servertime and billing file

Post by hedgehog »

first question -- if no one is on the island, servertime seems to forget itself. i dunno if that's just with the extended clock option or not -- when i'm in reine for instance, and it's 8pm, i can relog and if no one else is in there, it'll always revert to midnight.

bug? normal behavior? something else?

the second question revolves around my practice of usually just setting fooli as the "gov owner" of everything so i can play my own isles...

i'm wonderin -- if i remove the tractorserverbilling.lst file, reboot the server, then, with the island running passworded, drive to a cyber cafe and create a universal account, fly to reine, land, leave the cyber cafe, come home, sysop the account / suspend its health, thereby effectively creating a "god" NPC that can buy products...

is there anything specific in that file that would prevent me from re-using it over and over for future islands ad nauseum? ie: then i'd always know that my "government" character was ID 3 and "hedgehog" was ID4, thereby having in a loose sense, a new permanent NPC character to work with?

that should work fine. granted that nobody at the cafe decides to try and run atractor from that computer. or installs it, and goes to reine to find themselves linked with the god character.

Time thing - certainly not normal behaviour. Havent had any problems with time like that since about 0.008. Wil probably need to investigate with a debugger handy.

However.. it could be kinda related to the other part of the question.. As well as saving the player data, the billing.lst file also keeps the record of the current game date and time... Its ok to do but you will inherit whateva time/date you had when u saved it - not that that cant be overridden easily enuf with advancedate and whateva.

Have you been experimenting with that and caused the time problems? Or if not that, then i spose it could be some sort of 'leave effect'-type thing thats wiping the billing.lst file and therefore resetting the time.

nope, haven't tried part b yet, all theorhetical to my gettin off my ass and to a cafe of course :)

shouldn't be any leave effect (aka death effect) problems as that's set to zero... the only thing that i can think of that might affect it is that i'm using daytime type = 2, which most worlds don't employ.

basically i'm trying to match servertime and my local time :)
