A new world..
A new world..
Tractorzone, starting at the weekend, is a light econ/building-destruction world with short-term games running every hour. It'll be available on the 0.1.32 quickplay lists on both gal and tractor client.
Initially, there are 4 towns, all empty & for sale at first - no new towns can be built.
Each round you start with a bit of steel and a bit of cash (enough to buy a town if theres any still available).
Before you can do anything, you'll need to apply for residency at one of the towns. The town owner has to manually accept your application. Once you're a resident, you can access the buildings in the town and can build new buildings. (You have the build skills by default)
The available buildings (which all require Steel to build) are :
Steel Ref
Vehicle Fac
Aircraft Fac
Weapons Fac
Fuel Stop
( .. more (including Defensive buildings) may be added later.. )
Each building produces items for a simple fixed cost (1d every 3 mins in most cases). You start with enough Steel to build 2 or 3 buildings - If you want more, one of your buildings will need to be a steel ref.
At the end of each round, the players who have destroyed the most buildings of other towns are rewarded with kudos points and the map & characters are reset. (The town plinths themselves are indestructable). Ultimately the accumulated kudos points will be exchangeable for galactic credits.
So, in summary.. you buy or join 1 of the 4 towns, build a few buildings, produce a few vehicles and weapons, go off and blast the shite out of the other towns, then it all starts over an hour later.
Any comments, suggestions etc welcome.

a lil update on this..
a) Its called Battlezone now
b) It'll be unlocked this weekend hopefully. (With the normal disclaimers about my timekeeping)
c) I reckon itll be fun with a few players on it. (but not quite as fun as the Alpha Server :] )
The long-promised update of Zion weaponry and gameplay etc should also be done by this weekend. And flog me with your pointdrive if it isnt.

damn you like the details, uh, cowboy? :]
the actual econ layout is very very simple - not much point goin into details as they'll prolly change as the gameplay balancin goes on - but basically its veh fac produces two types of vehicle from invest, aircraft fac produces 2 types of aircraft from invest, steel fac produces steel from invest.. etc.etc.
The complexities and skill of the econ game rely more on producing and investing things at the right time - or at least quicker than the opposing teams. More C&C or red alert than sim city.
Btw, as we're a lil short on servers coz of zar's unfortunate PC trouble, Battlezone is open now - a lil unfinished but basically playable.
And if you're interested in seeing something a lil different (and even more unfinished) take a peak at the Alpha Server on the quickplay list for a bit of classic woomph action. It'll go back to being passworded soon (as i'll be working on client upgrades for it).
