I knew the lasers in cirrus would cause a bit of a conflaguration, but as we haven't had one in a while i thought it fun to do :] Its rare enough we have any space-fighting going on atm (and still isnt exactly difficult to avoid being killed if you're paying attention).

Attacking a newbie water-trader in Cirrus is never going to be very profitable (so not worth the effort most of the time) and there is the additional downside of the aggressor being given a bounty when they kill an innocent.

Regarding the ppl with bounties who just log-off to avoid being killed - this is a bug which will be fixed in 0.50.4. ( ;] ). If, after that fix, bounties are still not discouraging ppl from taking pointless potshots at newbs, then we can up the bounty rate and/or add more features to make criminality less appealing.

Countermeasures will also be fixed in 0.50.4
when they logg back on they have full hull%
This was fixed in 0.50.2 i believe - Any damage you inflict on a target remains until that player is killed or buys a new ship. (An option to buy repairs will be added later..)

Beyond that.. yes, im aware that all this stuff will still need some more balancing to avoid issues like 'idiots who just keep killing ppl to spoil the fun and who dont care about their bounty'... Bear in the mind the beta nature, and the upcoming fixes, and hopefully the current pain won't be too unbearable.
(Another aspect, btw, of the decision to turn on lasers in cirrus is to deliberately start a few fights so i can monitor issues with the way the gal server is working when fights are happening and to actually get threads like this started that will help identify the next bits we need to do...)
I don't know how you (in m-259) saw and attacked me in cirrus minor. But that's where I was.
This does sound rather unlikely - not something ive ever seen in the game before.. As zar says, i suspect its just a bit of confusion about who killed who and where...?

Seems terribly unlikely to me, too. I just can't figure out how I could have hit F5 and my screen allows me to set a course for Zion and I can appear to be almost there, and then I am destroyed by someone who's screen tells him he's in another system - not even the one I went to. <shrug>

But as you say and as I also noted earlier, it's a beta. And in my experience (such as it is), computers and programs fool us sometimes.

Regardless, I feel satisfied that the folks who run things and other experienced folks have paid attention to my concern and report. I may be a bit baffled, but that's life sometimes.

Thanks for all your time and effort, not just on my little experience, but on the game. I'm having fun.

Keep up the good work!

I agree with Mit. There wasn't any cool laser fights anymore coz everybody was safe in federation space. GRRR. But that fixed it and now we pirates are not so lonely anymore

Will this include people with cargo who log off to avoid being killed?

yes.

another bit on this area.. in 0.50.4 there are 3 laser items available (or at least, they will be, when i get round to updating the space stations) - standard laser, pulse laser and phasers. The standard laser is what you've currently got - the other two are a bit more accurate, do more damage, and have nicer sound effects.

All characters will start with standard lasers by default. If a player earns a bounty they cannot afford to repay, killing the player will earn you the bounty and the player will lose their standard lasers. (Rendering them harmless). This is to stop those people who "just keep killing ppl to spoil the fun and who dont care about their bounty".
