different forum format?

At present, you have to log in first before you can view the forum. I have found no way to look at the forum without logging in first. I don't think this is a good thing, as most new players have a natural reluctance to having to register before even reading what is in the forum.

Other forums have a different system, where you can look at the forum without having to log in first, and then only need to log in when you want to make new topic, reply to posts or edit your posts.

Of course, I might had overlooked the link to see the forum, in which case, make it bigger,more noticeable and easier to access.

Actually you're right - it is a bit inconsistent. We took the decision to make forums only available to registered users because anyone interested in playing the game while it's in Beta would naturally be a registered kind of user... It also helps keep the bandwidth down a bit, and I'm sure there were other technical reasons but I can't remember what they are now :)

Having said that, while there's no forum link available, you can just click "register for free account" and then hit the forum index link that appears on the same page without registering - enabling read-only access to the forum pages. Not sure if that was the plan but that's certainly what seems to be happening.

umm ye it was a bandwidth issue

seriously though this website does use a signifigant ammount of bandwidth to keep it going as bandwidth = cash it was decide that the forums are a community element of the game and as such would only be available to registered users... however if you want to access the forums without logging in just bookmark www.theuniversal.net/forum/ that will negate the need to use the links

if this was just a site with no game attached to it yeh, it'd be total crap; but i remember the driving force other than the stuff above is what magic eluded to -- the game should be more the forum than the forums

probably way off the actual discussion here, but why not just click the Automatic Login thingy so you only need to login once? pretty much solves the whole login to view the forums issue doesen't it?

only times i ever need to log in is when i change pc.
