bug detected?

Terra Ultimatum

I have these 2 settings:
Subgame Settings > War Games: 2; Team Selection: 4

This should have the following effect:
Permanent 'war' mode. The economy aspects of the game are inaccessible, players are kept in spec until they choose a team.
Players choose their team when they join the game. Until they've chosen team they're locked in 'spec' mode. Once chosen they cannot change team
-->
Players choose team when they join, i want some kind of economical war, they cant change teams after choosing.

When I join the game, i have to press 1 or 2 to choose teams. After doing that, it just says:
Joining game
You joined team 1 (or 2)
The screen of choosing team just stays there, i can't type. If I get out of spectator mode with F4, then i see myself standing on the place i was the last time. I still can't type. If I then do F1, i type *settings, then click Enter Island, then i can talk again. Though, if i relog, then it begins from the starting point!

Is this a bug? Is it fixable?

And i have another question about this, could Mit please insert option 13 in War Games:
As 2, but the economy aspects are accessible.

Thanks,

I think its Team selection Mode that does it:

War Games = 4
Team Selection Mode = 0
GIVES > you get no team choose, i am just spawned on 1 of the 2 cities

War Games = 0
Team Selection Mode = 4
GIVES > You get the same team choose, and the same bug as before.

So it looks like War Games does nothing and Team Selection Mode does everything

those settings are a bit old and likely not working right atm.. will have a look into this today and try and include a fix for the next build.

there are settings that achieve this effect, but not those :]

team selection 4 is a bit screwy. many of the team selection items are. if you just want a nice way to pick a team and stay there, i reccomend some of the new 1.34 features that haven't yet made it to documentation:

team selection mode 9 - if the player has not already joined a team, any towns on the map will be presented in a team selection screen when the user first enters the world. once chosen they cannot change teams.

create two towns, and set one as team one and one as team 2.

you can then use world settings--->destroyed vehicle effect 5 to always respawn people in their team's town, however i kind of like effect 2, which allows you to set spawnzones. it sucks when you have collision on and you get stuck in the plinth or worse, on another player. a nice big spawnzone takes care of that.

new player start position is also important here: if you want them to spawn on their town plint (ie: you're using vehicle effect 5), then use new player start position 0, and they'll start at the plinth when they select their team as well.

however if you prefer they spawn in a zone (and you're using destroyed vehicle effect 2), then go with new player start position 1.

i like mode 1 because if you press escape during the town / team selection, it'll start the player in the center of the map, or you can set a .spawnzone 0, and the no-teamers should start there.

they won't start in spec if they escape from the menu, but line their spawn area with some impassables and a hornball court or something, and that takes care of that i reckon.

um... i think there's something else... subgame settings-> wargames prolly should be set to 1.

if you want to disable the econ aspects (which it doesn't sound like you want since it's a team econ), you can set display mode in graphics settings to 1 or 2, but this makes things a bit of a pain because it uses [esc] as part of a menu scheme, and so escaping out of screens makes chat inaccesible, and all kinds of other weird stuff.

as a suggestion if mit is cleaning this stuff up, i might say that assigning the "escape menu" to another key would likely sort out a lot of problems with that. there's a few unassigned shift keys... what about shift+f9, or shift+end or something?

anyway that should give you a nice reliable team game. on the plus side, all that stuff works and you didn't have to wait a few years for it ;)
