Builing Index error

Post by Jemrada »

When people join my island they are getting an error says, " Invalid building index ". What could cause this be and how can I fix it?

Also when I join I too get this error.

*side note* Also it seems F3 doesn't work anymore to change vehicle for my players or the insert vehicle from inventory ether. What could this be?

Oh yeah also, watch out for Scrag. Don't make him a OP like I did GAH
I being a noob and finding out stuff the hard way.

yeah basicly it's never a good idea to give anyone authority past knight - or even baron - unless you've taken some kind of blood oath and spit in each other's cereal and dated the same girl and both agree she's a real jerk and climb everest together.

anything else is bad news bears.

i'll have a pop over there and see if i can't be of some use, but sounds like a mit question.

What did scrag do now?
Getting a little bit of a bad rep lol...

Yes I think we should make a list of "trustworthy" knights/op's and some sort of black list.
That way you don't have people screwing with our servers.

not sure about the vehicles bit.. would need to look at that on the isle. If its workin in other places then my first guess would be to check World Settings -> Vehicles ?

The "invalid building index" error message was added a long long time ago to counter a problem where some buildings were getting corrupted and moving to the bottom edge of the map. As far as i know this was fixed.. so presumably there is an actual building at the edge of your map somewhere?

This can, theoretically, cause problems because some of the routines that check proximity with a building check the tiles surrounding the building - If its at the very edge of the map the surrounding tiles won't necessarily exist... However (again theoretically) this shouldn't actually cause any problems now.

Are you aware of any building being placed on the edge of the map? If not, I can add some extra info to find out exactly what building it is thats causing this problem next time i've got a bit of spare time at home. I'll also check to make sure there aren't any side-effects, but presuming it is an actual building there (not a corruption as was the original problem), then it should be safe just to remove the error msg.
Note that the building in question won't actually show up on your client atm - the error message is alerting the fact that the building is in an invalid location and so won't be added.
