gal quickplay
how do i get gal quickplay? can sum1 get me a link?
thats on the galaxy client you've downloaded. When you start the game, you should see the frontend screen with the options -
Continue Game (or Start Game if its your very first go)
Quickplay
Help
Exit
The second option, Quickplay , takes you to a list of 4 'quickplay' worlds - the same format you'll be used to if you've being playing A Tractor previously.
The quickplay list at the moment tho is entirely WIP. There'll probably be two servers active there, Battlezone and Alpha Server - both of which are currently passworded. Battlezone will be available by the weekend hopefully, Alpha Server is a special special place for testing *ahem* interesting new stuff.
The other 2 quickplay servers, Ultrakricket and Newbie World, will be activated at some point in the not too distant future.

*cough* - no. :]
Quickplay means 'quick'. Hence the name. A lot of ppl visit this game and leave because it involves an awful lot of long-term commitment. Thats all right for ppl like yourself who like that kinda thing, but i would like it to make it a bit more enjoyable for those of us who dont have the time available to play long-term games like zoric. So, no :]
And anyway..

fyi, if i can keep my schedule free-ish in the near future, there'll be a new hedge world with about ten short-term maps (that the server cycles through every 15/20 mins or so) on reina roja, in the m-25 system.
atm it looks somethin like:
map 1: hyper econ
objective - build as many boats and weapons as fast as your team can in 30 minutes.
map 2: the flood
objective - the server will flood with water and any losers will die, being spawned on to a small island to sit around crowing while the guys in boats will power themselves up for the next map at an offshore location with speed boosters and praps a more powerful crow.
map 3: to the victor go the vehicles
objective - a chain of several buildings, located on various corners of the map, produce the items necessary to make a racecar. players compete to capture a building and collect its resources. killing a player takes his/her inventory, and if destroyed, the player will then have to return to all previous buildings and try again, while the person who wins the kill will continue on (unless he or she is also killed).
this continues until the map cycle time, and the winners have a new racecar many times faster than the default vehicle.
map 4: econ racing
losers or people who don't feel like racing continue to make racecars, in addition to speed boosters and fuel in a sort of "pit crew" environment. winners of previous rounds who already have said materials can go ahead and race for cash and fame.
map 5: the raceway
all players will now compete head to head on a massive racetrack. same as 4 but no econ element.
map 6: battle raceway
any cash saved up on previous races will now be used to purchase weapons and upgraded racecars. racers who are shot are temporarially stalled out for a few seconds before they can continue racing. winners are, as usual, rewarded with cash.
map 7: air attack
players who've done well on previous maps can use their cash to purchase planes and fly around having air battles. players without enough cash...i'm still sortin' this bit out
etc etc.

Biplaneworld is designed to be extremely simplistic and an easy way to get some credits. When i've fixed up all the 'new player to the galaxy' type problems, new players will start in orbit of biplaneworld. Its there then as a place where first time players can get an idea of what the games about, hopefully it shows em a bit of the power of the engine and then gets em quickly back in to space to go find somewhere a bit more interesting to play. Its Level 1, if you like.
And i agree with VD, it can actually be quite fun with a few players on - i've had a couple of very entertaining dogfights with 3 or 4 other ppl around, and the racecourse is pretty decent too.
