Valhalla is closing. It's time to rebuild the server. The dates that were displayed on the server showed a close date of November 3. As I write this it is November 2 and the rebuild that I just mentioned is needed desparately.
So, as the game had a close date lets reveal the winners. The top ten on the wealth list are the best indication of who has the knowledge to play on an island that has no bank and an unemployment rate that pays 1 sheckle per month.
1.) SRV 19753s21d
2.) P3gasus 17042s1d
3.) Nigel 9164s45d
4.) N1Stunner 3852s89d
5.) Spider 3321s6d
6.) McManus 2049s63d
7.) Matthew 1890s72d
8.) thoys 1869s
9.) THEONE 1827s99d
10.) FredJupiter 1770s
Certainly anyone that rose over the starting cash showed that they know how to run an ecomomy and profit from the game.
Some of the drawbacks to the island were that once players made it into the other areas (the ones that were only accessable by boat or plane) and then built a town.... the town became a spawn zone for new players. This usually trapped anyone new in an undeveloped town and no way to reach the schools or anything else. Mit, if your listening, we need to set the ability to have a new player spawn zone.
Also it was noted that at one point I was asked to give my start cash on another island to a player and he would give me 1000s on Valhalla so i could play it with more cash. This sort of behaivour may require that no cash is given to players at the start or the ability for players to give cash be limited.
Lastly on the topic of drawbacks was that the behaivour of building the foundation of a cheap building and trying to sell it as an expensive building. I would suggest to anyone running an economic island that they set teh buildings to not require materials. The buildings will be compleated imediately and therefore will be displayed as they were intended to be.
I would like to thank the staff that has dropped in occaisionally and lended a hand. As you are well aware I kept my distance for the most part to avoid the issue of making grants of goods or cash. The island was supposed to be a player controlled economy and I believe that it was a success in this. The players that made an honest attempt to build an economy were rewarded with being recognized as exceptional players and should be in high demand for future families and allies.
Matizme, Stunner, Matthew, Nigel. Thank you
Mit and LastOne, thank you also for your support and expertise.
The future.....
I plan to return when things stablize (at my end) but as a player and not an island owner. I may still run an island in the future but one thing that I have seen as lacking is the development of the game from the player's point of view. Although the game has certainly become more advanced and through the settings has much diversity, I believe that developement on the player side of things has been left out to a large degree. Fewer players spend time playing an island and often log in to quickly check their wealth and then leave. The days of transfering stock to make a few more sheckles are gone. We need to create things that allow players to work to get ahead rather than to just sit back.

Nice one bubba, thanks for running the island and also for posting this - is useful info.
I'll check that spawnzone code again - should be a fairly easy way of preventing that problem.
re: the comments regarding the development of the game from the player's point of view.. i know what u mean and agree, and there's a whole load of stuff in progress right now that should produce a pretty comprehensive, coherent game, as well as, hopefully, expanding everyones' minds a bit :]
I'll give u a demo soon

Was just reading some other forums about people leaving and I want to make it clear that I'm not leaving the game. I will be preoccupied with some proposals and website development for the next little while. Hey, I got bills to pay and a business to start. (hopefully)
Once I get the software reinstalled I will start to look into a few islands and start up with the suggestions again. (*me hears a knocking sound and realizes it's coming from Mit's knees)

some of the discussion here:

might help with some of the spawn concerns. the "ghost town" angle isn't relevant to your problem, however going the alternative route with spawnzone should help.
there were some improvements to some of that, and some new additional billing/spawning options in 99.4, which probably won't show up until a 0.04.5.x release.

Well as it aint fixed yet, you can use *showowned on the seller to see what he is actually selling.Bubba wrote:Lastly on the topic of drawbacks was that the behaivour of building the foundation of a cheap building and trying to sell it as an expensive building. Or *buildetails. In fact, I think this should be reccommended to players just in case we have some wannabe con-artists. Mebbe a note saying: "This Building is ony in its construction stage. If you plan to buy it, it is reccommended that you check what it is. Type *buildetails." Also while we're on suggestions, it'd be real schweet to see a little notice saying: "Are you sure you want to buy this building?"
