Even though i'm not very active(always been more of a space vagrant), I want to give a huge thank you to everyone involved with this game, especially to Fooli and Mit.
I first started playing a long, long while back under a name i have now forgotten(I so wish I could remember..), and eventually i logged in again as Tuatha, and now Boldheart.
As I now search through the forums nostalgically I resent the immature posts I once made, and for that I am truly sorry. I was in the 7th grade in 2007.
But when I started, I was even younger than that. My cousin(Nexen) and I had joined in at the decline the big guilds-- SR and NR. We joined up with SR under jmoyet, and went on pirating missions on our own quite a bit.
We were both amazed by the amount of things you could do in the game, and we quickly started landing on planets. Unfortunately for me, I had an issue rendering the buildings and textures on planets, so I usually had to keep to the skies, but Nexen would usually hang around and do things on them. It wasn't untill I started logging in as Tuatha that I could finally render the planets and explore them.
But space was always the place that I wanted to be. When players started becoming scarce.. I felt out of place. I couldn't pirate, or interact with other players the way I wanted to, and even though the universe was still as big as the day I started, it became much more lonely.
My happiest gaming moment ever was stalking a remote system for several hours and then seeing a lonely galfreighter jump in, attacking, and taking his goods. I had a great sense of accomplishment about me that few other games have equalled.
TheUniversal was and is the game where you can do anything you want. Thank you for the memories.
Boldheart
P.S. I want, so badly, to remember the old callsign that I used when I first started. I know for a fact that it was registered the same week, if not the same day, that nexen began playing. Please let me know if there is an old registry or server log that i can pore over somewhere.
P.S.S. Oh, and a server chat log would be sweeeeeeet. Idk if that's possible, however..
A Thank You

Oh man. The most cringe a person can get is looking at their post history...Boldheart wrote:As I now search through the forums nostalgically I resent the immature posts I once made, and for that I am truly sorry. I was in the 7th grade in 2007.

Oh gawd yeh.. :]Oh man. The most cringe a person can get is looking at their post history...
Hello fella :] As zar said.. 'lovely post'.. appreciate the 'thank you's and, to all.. well.. it makes me happy to know I've done a bit of that for many of you, and if I was run over by a bus tomorrow i'd be pleased to know we've done a fun thing or two between us All others who've been involved over the years should feel the same, methinks.
But anyway, that's past.. Future-wise.. yeh, sorry.. I know I've been incredibly slow recently (but not as slow as fooli :] ).. Some of that is the usual.. work, life, not getting paid to do this (much appreciated as they are, subscriptions don't yet pay for the hosting, let alone wages), etc.. but most of it is because my free hours have been spent in a different universe coding up the next bits so that when we do them, its (hopefully) at least half-good. (my real goal is 40% good +/- 30%).
I'll put Xebec up for a while soon, as long ago promised. I know stim will entertain for a wee while.
After that.. next bit is mostly done (bar the cutscenes, fancy models and testing)... there are some missions, a moral decision, and then..
Other work has been on a couple of things : 1) Getting a 'Game Path' system in place on the universe server, so that (in short) newbs can pick the short path or the long 'history' one, or.. well whatever. It's a series of worlds that link together to ultimately send the player to.. 2) space. Which I've spent most of my time in lately. I broke a few things (in the course of the conversion to dx9 and a more modular engine that might one day be worthy of goin elsewhere) and fixed a few things. But mostly I've been workin on adding in a new layer where 'factions' (or 'squads' depending on which terminology is in this week) get to play a star-system conquest metagame, putting their resources into offensive and defensive armaments and vying for control of the galaxy. or some such . Personally, I find there's few things more fun (though not necessarily more efficient) than making up a design as you're coding it :].
Hence why there's that lull in semi-pre-medieval activity, just after the dark ages.
I'm expecting October (maybe November) to be busy, and there'll be comms and everythin.
Logs? ah.. probably not
