My thoughts on the "Skill" system

Post by wes773 »

I wasn't sure whether to put this in a different section of the forums, but I decided to post it here because I want it to be seen.

The current setup requires that you click "Your inventory" to access your skills. This is a problem, because that doesn't even look like a button. I spent an hour today waiting for somebody to get on to explain how building with skills works. While this isn't really a "bug," players need to be able o figure out stuff on their own, or they'll leave. While we're testing our the game, we need to remember to voice our opinions on things. This doesn't mean we should demand more stuff, just tell whether things are user friendly or not. This is such an unintuitive design, that I have to stop and think to remember how to get to my skills. Maybe the British think differently, I don't know.

If anybody else has anything to add, feel free to. Also, staff can move this post to the appropriate section of the forums if needed.( READ IT FIRST!!!!!!!)

Before people come in demanding more stuff, remember that we should just be telling Mit that something's not right. Don't try telling him how to fix it, that's his job to figure out. From experience, I know that sometimes it's hard to come up with a nice and friendly setup. These things take time, we just need to do our part and let him know when something's not "right."

Yea, I agree... Im not sure the cursor even changes when its over the area but i could just have forgotten. Perhaps a tabbed style inventory/skills display, with certain obviousnesses of their nature.

yea i wasnt at home when i posted that and just checked to see if it did or not.

Either way, a tabbed system would be more appropriate for the section.

I also agree. Was all added rather quickly with the intention of cleaning it up later.
Best approach i've thought of so far is to have it as tabs at the top of the box, with skills there but greyed out when the inventory is selected, and vice versa. That sound good to you?
(p.s. appreciate the sentiment.. constructive criticism is always welcome :] )
