Ladies and Gents, the time has come. We have been spending the past few weeks in anarchy, with each player trying to be the one who invents the next big thing, with no leadership, just waiting for someone to invent enough to be 'crowned' the leader. Well, I say no more. As alluded to by Keyalha in an earlier post, it is time for a leader. We cannot succeed if we all work individually, or in small competing teams. No, we must band together, as a tribe, as a nation, and work together to overcome our obstacles! Why should we wait for some deity to crown our king? I say we choose our own king! The time has come for a vote. Our king will be responsible for dividing us up into production classes based on what we have and how often we are online, as well as spearheading and directing the R&D effort. Just as Henry Ford revolutionized manufacturing with the assembly line, we will revolutionize our little island! I propose a 3-tiered system. In the first stage, we take nominations for King, The 3 or 4 with the most nominations become candidates, should they accept the responsibility. They then have 3 days to campaign, and then we vote. We implement the ranked-choice system, in which you rank the candidates in terms of preferability. In the event that no candidate emerges with a majority of the vote, we proceed to Stage 3. The lowest candidate is removed, and all their votes go to whoever was second choice on those individual ballots. And this continues until someone has a majority. And then we have our King! And he or she will lead us to prosperity and wisdom!
Disclaimer: I (James) pre-emptively decline any nomination for candidacy. I'm not on often enough to be an effective King.

Re: It Is Time
While i like the general idea of a king to be crowned, i think voting is more of a popularity contest than it brings us really forward at all. I think for one there is soon to be a game mechanism that decides who will become king anway as this is our chapter goal. And Second as said i doubt that enough people just follow orders because of a vote at something they do in there spare time, it would make things more work than fun in the end.onionguy92 wrote:Ladies and Gents, the time has come. We need to work together and decide what to do together in a democratic way imho if we want to suceed. Else we do even more partial our workforce in the end.
soon (tm) is something like 2 years 5 month and 14 days or is 15 years 9 month and 6 days depending on whom you ask ^^Mit wrote:correct.I think for one there is soon to be a game mechanism that decides who will become king anway as this is our chapter goal
(Although, coz its gonna take a fair bit more development, testing, fixing, re-testing,,, it may depend on your definition of 'soon' :] )
Edit: Is there any rough ETA you have in mind MIT, is it more like days, weeks, moth?
I highly assume its somewhere in the weeks range, if i remember correctly someone said one chapter was said to last 1 month approx.
i'll let you know more when y'all get there.
A month per chapter would be ideal at this stage but it depends on a whole load of factors, not least how much me staying up late doing coding annoys my wife. Of course, my wife is much easier to placate if i can show her that theres a whole load of paid-up members waiting for the next chapter. :]
btw.. James, not for king? But surely King James has such a nice ring to it!

I tried to use paypal to pay for it but it says that this type of payment only is available with a credit card which i dont have. I could spare the 6 bucks each 3 month easily but currently have no way of doing so.Mit wrote:i'll let you know more when y'all get there.

The problem, though, is that hardly anyone will agree to sit lower on the production chain. Everyone wants to be at the top. And committees are notoriously bad at agreeing on things. I should know, I've sat on my fair share.
Zaroba: Yes, Kings are not usually elected. But there are exceptions. For example, in Star Wars, the monarch of Naboo is elected. Kind of like in ancient Rome, in times of trouble, they would vote to grant supreme powers to one elected leader. Basically making him a king.
Keyalha, I get what you're saying about making it more work than fun. Excellent point, and one I hadn't considered. Though, we should also consider that when progress grinds to a halt and we're sitting there trying random combinations, that also feels more like work than fun, which is why some people have sort of given up until the next big invention. A leader would give us a sense of direction and purpose.
Mit, I don't want to be King. Too much power, too much responsibility, too much pressure. I'll settle for being the King's Grand Vizier, and deviously plot to influence the King's every move from behind the curtain
Also, Keyalha: Aren't all elections basically popularity contests, when you get right down to it? Think George Bush back in 2000, and the troubles Romney's having these days.
