4 Wheels possible in Model Converter?

Post by brad_sk88 »

Hey, I managed to find some of my old discs so I'm gonna brew up some models. But I noticed that you can only 'add wheel model 1" and "2" in the ATM Converter program. How would you add 4?

Cool Brad - I've been meaning to get in touch with u to discuss this.

Ok: wheel model 1 is your "front wheels". They're the ones that'll turn with the player direction. You add model one and attach it to the two front wheel vertex attach points (I usually just add a plane or something in the right position for that).

Wheel attach point 1 is "front left". Point2 is "front right".

Wheel model 2 is your "back wheels". They don't turn (obviously) but u attach them to a vertex in the same way.

Attach point 3 is "back left", and attach point 4 is "back right".

I'm quite drunk so mebbe ive got em mixed up... but that's basically how it works. Same for props and stuff on planes/helis, too.

Hope that helps...

PS - model converter with latest functionality is v 0.9. Let me know if u don't have access to that on the site etc and I'll mail you a copy. Check the f1 car in GrandPrix for an example of how wheels work..

Yet another PS (told u I was drunk :)

The converter knows that it needs to reverse the position of the wheels for wheel 2 and 4. So when u save out ur wheel model, save it in the right orientation for the front left/back left wheel. The converter will flip it automatically for their opposites.

Note also that u can use the wheel attach mechanisms to create 6 wheel vehicles - us just add two front wheels as normal, and add a pair of wheels as wheel 3 and 4. If u wanna :) . In the latetst converter u can also do bikes, tho to be honest I haven't tested that yet. Good luck :)

er.. you have to know the vertex numbers for all the wheels. It's just a case of moving the attach point til they're in the right position - a pain, but at the moment that's the way to do it. If u wanna send me what ur workin on I'll have a look... alien at alienbraincookies dot com

Very rough 'n' ready, but if u follow the images in sequence hopefully it'll explain what needs to be done... The Max, x and atm files are in there too.

Okay I figured out why the 2nd and 4th wheels weren't showing up. I was hitting "show wheels as props." Would upload it but it seems the Model Library is glitching again.

It looks pretty okay in the game.
