youtube turorial videos for TU

Post by flametard »

Everyone watches youtube, and lately, ive been youtubing potential games to play not only to look at the graphics and gameplay, but also to watch tutorials to understand the games interfaces and buttons better. Currently there are a couple TU videos on youtube but no tutorials.

I propose we set up 2 tutorials, one to walk players through gameplay in space and on a couple of very nice looking worlds. and one which walks players through some of the aspects of world building. as far as i can see, Second life is going to be our main competition because that game is similar to TU in the respect that players can own land which they can develop in a persistent larger world. but our game is superior in the respect that u can play in the linked parts between player owned territory (space) and you cant in second life (the ocean between the player islands) also TU is free and SL is expensive.

these tutorials must be very simple and quick, with a narrator who doesnt dilly dally on topics, or express personal opinion, but educates viewers quickly. there should be no background music, only a persons voice who can speak quickly and clearly.

--gameplay tutorial--

introduction:
*starting the client
*spaceship controls
*system map
*galactic map
*checking the trade report
*docking in space stations
*buying and selling items in space stations (how to go through the station menus)
*stardrive and infimp drive
*landing on an existing planet (a nice looking one like xebec or zar's delivery world)
*explanation that all planets are different and player built
*quick run through of the gameplay and menus on that particular planet/s
*build menus and startblock menus

--World setup Tutorial--

*simple warning that world building will take a few different programs and isnt the same as playing a video game, and might take months, perhaps years to master.
*where to download the programs on the forum page
*setting up the world on a routed network
*starting the world
*landing on the world and checking if its online
*heghtmap (very simple done in a photo editor maybe all grey with 2 white lines and 2 black lines blended with the blend tool in some areas)
*server window and some of the buttons
*program files (how to put in the heightmap into the right file)
*landing on the planet to look how the heightmap changed things
*ground texture overview (tiles and texmaps)
*world *settings overview
*b-dat overview
*model converter overview
*weapons script overview
*scripting overview
*world guide (currently broken i think)

It might sound like alot but if we keep it really simple and go for a quick example/explanation rather than a full on detailed lecture about what each little thing does,. i think we can keep each video under 10 minutes. it'll be tricky to do all that world building stuff in 10 minutes but i think its possible. whoever does the world building stuff, should mention on and off that its all FREE and that its really fun for anyone who wanted to set up their own 3d game for FREE.

The videos should have the proper tags such as :
theuniversal.net, the, universal, free, online, game, MMO, MMOPRG, tutorial, gameplay, make, your, own, video, game, space... things like that

also, we should not do anything hastily, but make these well done, and wait for Mit's approval before we start spamming the net with the links :) cause there may be certain things he's about to add that he wants included in the new videos.

so anyone who wants to help, were in the brainstorming stage now, i dont know how to make videos on my computer, so help would be needed.
