Xebec Has officially started

Post by flametard »

After years of building, Xebec is finally ready to play. Testers and players are invited to have a look around, play, or even wreak havok! If you've been waiting for a new planet to arrive, this is it. It is a visually intensive planet, so you might experience issues if youre on an older computer, if not, you should be fine. screenshots and description coming soon. The planet is going to be permanently online from now on unless something comes up. Good Luck!

Xebec is a medieval style world where hunger thirst and weapons are active. You start the game by collecting source items and selling them in town, but quickly learn that in order to really progress, you have to do some exploring and some creative thinking. The technical point of the game is to kill as many other players as possible without dying before you or someone else figures out how to reset the world. which doesnt seem very new player friendly, but you will realize that there is more to the planet than killing. With dozens of scripted magic, castle sections, plants, food and beverages, you will find something that fits your personality, be it humble brewer, heroic knight, evil or good wizard, prestigious king, ninja, ninja wizard, castle grounds gardener, or average sightseer in loincloth. Good Luck and let me know if there's any problems. thanks! :D

any chance getting a zip uploaded somewhere?
downloading at < 1kb/sec will take quite a while :p

when the 55.2 server is released it should solve the slow download issue though

My PC downloaded them all. But it's a stubborn one. It wants to display them all.

....And it chokes to death. My PC can't munch up such big texture files. My client freezes.

do they work fine for you?
i always thought that the problems i had with the textures was a game limitation as my pc reasonably up to date.

i had tried making them smaller in my client (reduced them to 2048), but the game redownloaded them.

hmm, maybe if I reduce my drawdist I will solve my client freeze problem.

That didn't help my case either. I even reduced it to the lowest setting, my PC chokes and burns.

Zaroba maybe your crazy monkey internet is not good enough for Stimu-big-texmap? :P

yeah its strange that it works for me and other players but wont work for you. there must be some setting on yalls computers thats making it have problems.
looking at my graphic settings in small mode:

resolution 4x4
buffer size 256 x 256
model detail - high
draw distance 400
mipmap bias -0.25

video options:
*use basic direct x init

general options:
overall graphics level -medium

did setting the overall graphics setting to medium or lower help your issue or are you still getting problems?

*stimutacs gets his mail and finds a letter from a Justin Case at Zoric Enterprises*

Dear Lord Stimutacs,
as insurance adviser for Zoric enterprises, i would like to fill out an insurance claim for 2 buildings that were lost between today, Oct 23rd, and Oct 10th (over night in other words). the buildings were up to building code and well maintained so their loss is of unknown cause, a police investigation has yielded no results as of yet.

building number one was a cafe with 2 sheckles invested, inventory unknown as it was a new building and it had not yet been time to inventory the product.

building number two was a pub, which at time of last inventory (Oct 10th, year 23), contained 100 steaks, 150 raw meat, and about 15 ale, beer, whisky, and lager.
at current sale prices the cost of this lost inventory was 54s80d
8 ale @ 15d = 1s20d
8 beer @ 15d = 1s20d
8 whisky @ 15d = 1s20d
8 lager @ 15d = 1s20d
100 steaks @ 25d = 25s
150 raw meat = 100 steaks @ 25d = 25s

due to the current state of the economy, it is unlikely that they were demolished by a player due to lack of weapons (unless players can kick a building to death, lol)

we will gladly accept compensation in the form of cash or items.

Sincerely, Justin Case
Zoric Enterprises Insurance Adviser

ok I resized the texmaps and can email them to anyone who's getting the runtime error. just send me your email address and I'll get them to you, then you have to go into your program files>theuniversal>clients>data>textures>land>texmaps file, then delete any existing xetex files, and then put in the ones i send you. I made them only 1024x1024 50% jpg's which are around 200kb a piece. that will drastically reduce the graphics but should allow gameplay for any machine or connection strength. if you want i can make a 2048X2048 package as well.

I already emailed morb and masternicron, anyone else just let me know.

Xebec has restarted!

The winners are:

1 Thatguywhoexist, with 6 kills

Congrats to all the winners!
they will each receive 1 ostrich, butterfly, or shark

Xebec has just restarted and now is the perfect time to get in on the action early. With all the bugs worked out this round should fly by with the leaders of the previous round progressing swiftly, so keep an eye on them if you want to figure out the world's many pitfalls And treasures :| and try to get a kill or 2 in before the world ends, who knows, maybe you could be the one ridin around in the next formula 1 ostrich!

New changes to Xebec as of 7-23-2011

*Xebec is now Team battle

*Players can destroy buildings of players not on their team, even if the building owner is offline.

*Buildings are drastically cheaper, turning it into almost a type of real time strategy game.

* 3 Autofiring turrets. long range arrows, cannon tower, fire tower. the towers will fire at any passing player not on the team of the turret. the turret team is set permanetly to the builder's current team at the time of the buildings construction.

*new siege weapons:
Tank: 1st person view tank with a proper turret which allows firing in all directions.
fires cannonballs and flamethrower
Catapult: Stationary weapon that can not move or turn but has 2 modes of firing, long range, and high up. longest distance and most damaging weapon in the game.

*all weapons with the exception of kick can now destroy buildings. some faster than others.

*Kudos, gold, and sheckles are granted to players who destroy buildings. more depending on how hard the building is to destroy. its the only way to get kudos.

*many buildings can now be captured

* some castle buildings and walls have been resized to make castle building easier

*some tile and castle wall textures improved.

*Texts updated

*testing completed

no need to restart the world because of these updates, although u can now restart other player's games by destroying their stuff! :D good luck

im 99% sure that the game is realllllly ready to go. and might actually get tactical this time
