Zion = Super Slow Downloads!!!!

Well I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and that means I have to download all the files from Zion and other planets again.

My problem is with Zion. Zion has the slowest downloads in TU!! I mean 0.1kb/s to 0.3kb/s thats basicly 100-300 bytes per second!! Ariya and every other planet download just fine..

So what I suggest is set HTTP downloads on Zion.

Because the way we would get around the slow downloads is to have a player share the download files into some zip file for us to be able to bypass the extremely slow downloads.

this might also be an issue with new players joining for the first time.
new player logs in and thinks that zion's slow downloads are normal for the game, then never returns due to it being too slow.

Yeah that could be exactly one of the reasons why we have such low active player count (usually just us long time players)

Click "Cancel" when asked to upgrade to get to thepage where the download is.

just copy the textures and models folder into you theuniversal\clients\data folder and overwrite.

that is the url to my models folder that includes mainly zion's files. Mit should set it up to be a http download for all worlds he runs. anyways, putting those files into your Theuniversal/clients/data folder should keep you from having to download ingame. if anybody needs help with it, feel free to ask and i'll get back to you on it as soon as I can.

I've no idea why mit doesn't have http downloads for zion. I'd guess he probably did, or thinks he still does, and something's happened to whichever server he put it all on. I'll find out if I can.

zion's slow downloads should now be fixed.

zion was still running on 51.8
mit has just updated it to the current version and its going much much faster now.

hmm...server and client at 54.6

the downloads had been going fast. now they are super slow again.
averaging 0.0 to 0.1kb/sec for the scores.dat

i imagine other files would be similar.
although connecting was still fast.

will check on this.. does seem like its degrading over time, so is a bug..

Yup, I can confirm this.

Zion's become pretty much unplayable now, even with Wes's download folder. Connection is fine, but the welcome message is taking 60+ minutes to download.

Incredibly frsutrating.

60 minutes to load?! I havent had any problem with it and you know i'm on dialup... something is wrong there.

So... my nights are spent giving new players the url to my models folder and telling them how to install the models so they can use them. New players log into zion and immediately notice the slow download rates, then leave if nobody is there to help.

Might aswell just setup zion for http downloads until the server client downlaod bug is fixed.
