Buiding efficiency is recalculated automatically every 5 mins realtime.. (The *recalc command is only really required on islands where time is not advancing or when a sysop is setting up and testing the island).

Im guessing your lack of efficiency is caused by damage to the building? (If not, i'll need to check on the particular buildings when i get back tonight to confirm whats happenin there)

its a drill i built yesterday. had 5% eff. now 36% with 1 employee, 0% damage
the other drill (owned by kitchen), also has 0 damage, it has no employees, has a production effecieny level of 68%

*me looks at the numbers in the first post

do buildings gain effefiency with age?

If you're referring to kitchen's drill (i presume u are).. i believe that thats kinda half-bug/half-feature. When a building is created it copies some of the properties defined in the building.dat.. in particular the number of employees required. At the time kitchen's drill was built (it's actually one of the few original government buildings still left), the oil drill building in the building.dat required less employees than it does now, and hence is more efficient even though it has no employees.

This is a bug really, as all buildings should update whenever the building.dat changes.. somethin i'll fix sometime soon. For now tho, kitchen gets that bonus coz its a special "historical" building :)
