why the hell didn't you make sure its width was no greater then 130 pixels, that its height is greater than 90 pixels, and the file size no more than 59 KB?

I actually share this experience, and yes the avatar is the right size.

My guess is that the avatar upload was yet another casualty of switching hosts a while back. I don't know enough about phpbb to fix it, but - as a temporary, one time only measure - if you post a working link to your avatar here, I should be able to upload it for you direct to the server. One time only means, I'm not going to keep changing it every time you want a new one, so think carefully :]

(and I'll add avatars to the list of stuff the other staff need to fix)
