File transfer problems

Post by fhko »

I'm working on moving all my TU files over to my new computer. I believe I've gotten all of them, but when I start up game client I get the first two line of text and when try to open my world by selecting "Your World" from the menu I get the second two lines (and nothing happens).

I'm assuming it's a problem with the game not finding the right files and folders because of slight changes in the addresses. Is there any quick way to remedy this (or whatever the problem is)?

Nothing to do with files and folders. As you (slightly) surmised... the client can't find the server. Make sure all the network settings you had on the old PC are replicated on the new one (eg reroute.txt). Ideally make sure the new PC has the same network address, otherwise change whichever settings have changed with the new address too. Sorry I can't be more explicit right now, I'm a bit drnk :)

:?

I think we're not on exactly the same page here (at least figuratively).

My computer isn't hook up to any sort of internet/network access as of yet. I'm just trying to get the client and my world server to work correctly offline (and hopefully test out my dual core's ability to record TU videos) before college starts and it will be much harder to transfer files from my old computer.

In my previous post, I was hypothesizing that because of the move in file address from C:/Documents and Settings/my_user_name/desktop/TheUniversal to whatever it is now the game can no longer find some of it's own files (certainly not the world server right next to it). I've done a similar copy-paste job before with total success, but that could have been becuase the file addresses were the exact same thing (my_user_name being the same on both).

It could also have something to do with the switch from XP to Vista, but you would know much more about it than me.

An additional note: I also installed a separate copy of the game client from scratch (as opposed to the copy-paste job I did via my flash drive for the original) and it did exactly the same thing except it gave me the "welcome...and may your FPS be high" message above the "init Failed".

Well the good news is that I'm now online and the game seems to function normally enough. The exceptions to this are the fact that the Init failed message still appears, I'm only able to connect to my world via crashing on it.
