speaking of pics with guides, there is this stuff if anybody wants to integrate it into some type of guide:

Perhaps I didn't state the whole world thing clearly enough...

I was providing a list of what I thought were core world types that usually appear on TU. The list can be added to, modified or subtracted from till everyone agrees that pretty much anyone who visits TU will find something they like in at least one of them.

Some of them we probably already have, either finished or close to it. The rest we'll need to put our heads and keyboards together and work on making and hosting.

The guide comment is unrelated to the world thing. Hence the separation of subjects by the lines. As demonstrated above.[/quote]

mind if i copy that world list to tuwr fhko?

i think many of those worlds are already around, some kinda fit into multiple categories.

Insta-combat world: mechzone? sabrada when its done.
Minigame world: zion/claden? mechzone?
Organized combat world: mechzone.
Newbie World: i have plans to make one that will use scripts, variables, and other things to guide a player threw how to do basic things. hopefully will be able to accommodate up to 4 new players at once before auto resetting so 4 more can use it.
Short-term econ: syv (when its back up)
RPG/Civilzation style world: the republic
Themed worlds: bong-trek
Long-term econ: zoric, ariya, 420, few others
Warcons: ariya? 420?
Pretty worlds: sabrada and ciroz would probably fit into this when done.

theres could also be racing based worlds. but that could fit in with the minigame theme
long term economy could be broken into simple (claden's small economy, and ciroz when done) and complex (zoric's detailed economies)

Ariya would currently fit under the RPG tag. The only reason cash is used ATM is for GPR farming. its basically an uber-tized Syv/Repub.

You're free to use the list as you please, zar.

Anyone have any suggestions as to one that should be added or removed from the list of essentials? For example, pretty worlds don't really serve much purpose since a lot of casual talking goes on at whatever world is most popular anyway.

For clarification, good examples of each in my mind:

Insta-combat world: simple- the original mechzone, complex- reine blanche
Minigame world: zion/claden
Organized combat world: some of the previous versions of drellis
Newbie World: Biplaneworld
Short-term econ: a good one doesn't come to mind for me (syv is just a shortened the republic, right?)
RPG/Civilzation style world: the republic
Themed worlds: bong-trek and raceworld (I think that's what that dessert racing one was called)
Long-term econ: the list is long...
Warcons: ariya, reina roja
Pretty worlds: ciroz from what I've seen of it months ago.

-----------------------

Anyway, we should come up with a To Do list of things that we need to take care of for the game to bring about a revitalization...preferably in some sort of chronological order...

#1 make general game guides and make them readily accessible
#2 create a complete set of worlds
#3 advertise effectively
#4 host community events to entertain all players such as fightnights
#5 kidnap Mit at some point :D

or something like that...

uhhh, If I my voice my noobish opinion.

firstly, I love this game, awsome ships, awsome players, awsome staff, awsome everything, especially the build your own world. but the controls are a bit hard though, I have another kind of controls in mind.

secondly, I am indeed learning how to write C++, I'm almost half way through my college book O.O and I'd love to help you guys out.

thirdly, try looking at the RPG of MMORPG. promote more role playing! I'm always use to playing people I'm not, I think its quite fun, and I could get other players to join to if you did that.

thanks for listening.

Michael brings up a good point. I almost forgot how tricky it can be to learn the TU keyboard setup. Definitely need to look into that. Either by addressing it well in the guides or by changing the system altogether (which is unlikely).

Go read the guide. Jk, although that's what I do to people after typing the same thing over and over when trying to help. You can't be too salty about slow development, expecially when the game is free. I do agree that it would be neat if the game was open source. I don't think it would work out well though. I am not a programmer, but I can see how an online game would turn into a mess if everyone had their own galaxy. People would be scattered even more, some galaxies might not work, and how would it be organized? There are always other games out there to keep you busy while you wait for something new. I've learned not to get too addicted to computer games over the last couple years (except poker), otherwise you end up with no life and no women. So get a real life, then when you get bored of it, stop in for a few. I do believe a scripted training program could be easily be used, not only in the galaxy, but expecially on worlds. So, don't be mad, get gladd

I'll get working on some sort of comprehensive guide over the next week or two. I may not be around in the mean time.

Also I would think that increased donations would assist in feathering the developers into making new adjustments and possible even doing some new development. :-p

After finally managing to tear myself away from Dungeon Siege II (I uninstalled it just to be safe), I've started work on the guide I was talking about. Unfortunately, 90% of the files (mostly TU related) I tried to transfer to the computer I'm doing it on can't be unarchived because this computer doesn't use the right program. So I'm working with a bare-bones offline version of the game and my ever fading memory. I was hoping that this weekend I could get back to my usual computer, but it seems I made a miscalculation in dates. Next weekend though...

Oh and I'm also stuck using wordpad to write the guide (this computer doesn't even have power point!). still better than Microsoft word...
