Is it dead?

Post by _owner_ »

Similar to David's topic, but more information. I've played this game for almost half a year now, and when I play now, I see about a peak of like 15 players. I used to see about 25+. This game is looking like it's gonna die. It's fun, interesting, lots of stuff to do, but there is almost NO advertisement what-so-ever. So we, as players, need to populate this game. Wherever you go, post something about the game like on forums, make it your signature, PLAY THE UNIVERSAL!, and make it a link, or something like that. Or, get all your friends to play, I was the one who introduced Holt (now is name is Jippy) and (sadly) Rikku. I also introduced, JesusChristo, Deaffatality, and probably one more, but they quit, saying the game is too hard for new players to get into. So please, everyone advertise this game in anyway you can.[/i]

During my near two years around the game, I've seen many worse days then these. There's 20 people online at the moment which is only 5 off of your given average of better days, and its summer. Additionally, lack of advertisement isn't the main problem in my opinion. See my topic below.

Okay, so this game has one leg in the grave. Just a thought and probably a long shot. Couldnt there be a choice when you start, either Federation or Alien. Introduce a whole new line up of Alien ships and start them on the other side of the galaxy. Maybe change some federation ships as well. Maybe I'm just wasting my time saying this.

you mean like a team based galaxy? that could be interesting.

but then what about people who only want to trade in the galaxy?
well actually, it wouldn't be too different from how it already is when it comes to fighting/trading.

Well.. fact of the matter we have had a lack of population since I've been playing (three years off and on) and nothing is different today. Don't worry this game is not going to die, I think it's been through darker times.

I was hopling that whoever read what I said earlier took into thought of it, and not just another topic. But would such a change be allowed by the big wigs of TU?

Perhaps...but the features-to-be-considered-for-addition list is very long (many of which will probably take priority over this suggestion)...either way it's probably not going to be happening any time soon...Mit is very busy at work right now (so I've heard)...and doesn't have much time for game patches lately...which could be partly the reason for the slightly lower than usual attendance.

edit: on the subject of game advertisement...as owner mentioned at the beginning...

I recently added TU to a few (I think three) different online game lists I came across...one of these was MPOGTop...it's a site that ranks games according to the quantity of votes cast for it...
...I sent the 'webmaster' (I assume Magicfinger) the information he needs to add a voting link to this site...if it does get added and we just happen to make it into the top twenty...it could easily bring in 100+ people to thsi site every week (dare to dream)...

the game still is in the 'New 10' list as of this post so if anyone is interested in rating it or even writing a review they are welcome to do so.

Yeah I saw this game falling a long time ago, now I just don't play it anymore. The game suddenly emptied in the arrival of DECAHWN, then ended up even more empty at the exist of SR and NR. I don't know about the planet side, DECAHWN...... well.. thats natural isn't it? The exist of SR, well...... SR had more than 16 members, when they left TU lost like 14 membbers, then i left, that makes 15, and smurf isnt playing much either so that makes 16. The exit of NR..... well.. NR had about 12 members or a bit more like 14. They all or most of them left after the exit of SR and DECAHWN, Deca made some players leave too so yeah considering this is a small comunity, the game has lost a lot of members.

Many people just come and go... you know what I mean? They come, play for a few days or a week and then leave..... so about what I said before is about permanent members, the game has lost about 30 permanent members adding up the SR, NR and the members Deca made leave.

Good luck to this game and good luck to you guys, please guys don't let it die. :(

'Failing' seems a bit harsh...you trying to scare off people with your talk of doomsday?

I think the game was really going up in the world till the patches dried up...this is only a brief journey into the Darks Ages that will precede a Renaissance in my mind...

its a revolving door and i just sit and watch the ppl come n go.... the games not failing, dieing, etc etc..... isnt this about the time of the year that some ppl start to freaking out the galactic populous is down a tad, anyway?

its the closing of summer.. alot going on w/ppl.. just hang in there and roll w/it.

yet logically speaking, summer time should really be the busiest time due to there being no school....

One would think summertime would be the busiest time... But you have to factor in vacations and the fact that some of the younger types will be picking up summer-time jobs, be it mowing lawns or otherwise... Some people aren't just going to sit around their computer screens all summer, after all. Yep, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the decrease in our population... We've come this far, this stagnation of our growth isn't going to hurt us now...

Bah, bunch of old women! If you've nothin else to talk about why not moan about how things ain't what they used to be :)

It's always quiet during the summer. You're supposed to be outside getting skin cancer y'know. And it is a leetle bit quieter than normal overall... a bunch of people who played in space seem to have departed, and I guess that's cos they were friends of people who've been booted, or they just got bored of it, I dunno. Basically this is a beta (perpetual beta) project, which means activity is driven as much by development as anything else... and as there's no development going on at present (because Mit is working flat out on The Future Of Sony ;) we're lacking all the little features and fixes and so on that tend to keep people's attention.

The advertising thing I've talked about infinite times before. It's easy to get new players, but we still have much to fix to make sure they stick around. See the development issue, above.

My prediction is that come the Autumn, when it's a) not summer, and b) when Mit might be a little less busy, we'll see an increase in population, some more features and fixes, and if possible I plan to do some more PR. Perhaps we should reset the galaxy at the same time.

Final thing... I wonder whether 90% of the people we've "lost" actually just played in space. The worlds seem about right, population-wise, for the summer months.

Now go outside and play, the lot of ya :p

Stimutacs just told me to tell you guys that his absence should not go unabated. he will return very shortly to once again rule over the galaxy with a menacing iron fist-like grip. he also asked me to mention to you guys that his absence was due to a move of his stuff into a new space ship, and the new ship has cable. so planet xebec might be online soon.

lastly, he wanted me to send out a warning to all those who said this game, er, i mean, space, was dead. accordingly, he will make you dead upon seeing you in space for your insolence, and defamation. those of you who wish to fall into a single file line behind the great Stimutacs and his ideals may perhaps be spared.
PERHAPS

all heil Stimutacs, undisputed leader of NR. and therefore, as the only remaining survivor of the clan wars; sole ruler of the galaxy.
(applause sign)
thank you, you may be seated now.
