Next sabrada info and details.

Post by zaroba »

The Story:
The year is 2106, you awaken in a large bomb shelter. one of many built in the major cities to help the human race go on after catastrophic events. you climb out of the bomb shelter and look around. the landscape is scorned with the remains of the last great nuclear world war. the sky and air is thick with smoke from the many fires in the abandoned buildings. off in the distance you hear gunfire and are somewhat scared.

you start to walk down the street and notice there are tanks and vehicles all around, abandoned like the many buildings. You find an old newspaper and read the headline: "BILL GATES ATTEMPTS TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!". You read the paper learning all about what has happened. suddenly you hear close gunfire, very close, too close. You start to run. you duck into an alleyway to hide and find a dead soldier. you hear foot steps getting closer, you take the soldiers armor and weapon and prepare for the worst....

The Setup:
the world will have a post-apocalyptic, semi-urban setting. basically, you'll be in a large city with suburbs surrounding it. there will be lots of buildings like high rises, offices, houses, hotels, and even a few parks. there will also be many vehicles and other debri littering the streets.

there wont be any hunger/thirst at all. nor anything to buy/sell. this is basically a free for all combat world that takes place in a ruined city and outer lying suburbs. vehicles and weapons wont even have to be bought, they must be found. There wont be anything telling you were they are either, but they will be all over the place. if you read this post, you should easily be able to figure out how to get vehicles/weaps, etc.

The Graphics:
it will start out with simple graphics. very simple graphics. similar to how last drellis was. but it will turn into a high poly / high detail world similar to how ciroz is planned. there will be nicely detailed buildings that you'll actually be able to enter the first floor of, or climb to the top of (for sniping). overall, the world will be flat and HUGE.

other info:
this setup will be the last reset for sabrada. after this world is completed, it will run this setup until jemrada comes back. except for possible resets just to clear the players, which probably wont even be needed. if/when jemrada comes back to take back sabrada, this setup will be moved to a new registered world who's name isn't yet known. but the later isen't anything to worry about. it probably wont happen for months.

i just assumed it was a suggestion for a name for the world if it was to move to a new server. and, thats not too bad a name. i'll have to keep Fallout in mind.

like i wrote in the bottem of the post "if/when jemrada comes back to take back sabrada, this setup will be moved to a new registered world who's name isn't yet known"

nearly ALL the buildings will be explorable, but due to collision limitations, there will only be 20 different floor layouts (10 for the city, 5 for houses, 5 for other things) and only the first floor of the buildings will be explorable. although some of these buildings will have the first floor closed to allow players to explore a higher level where they will have a view from above the streets and be able to snipe other players. most items will be findable IN buildings.

this is one of 10 floor layouts that will be used in the main city:
(no, its not done yet, it needs texturing, a floor under it, and a model to represent all the floors over it)
Image
in this building you have a standard clinic layout. right ahead of the entrence are several elevator shafts (ALL city buildings will have the elevators at the same spot), some buildings will will use these to get to the higher floors. to the left of the elevators are mens and womens bathrooms. in the rest of the space you have 6 main offices, each with several rooms. this being a clinic, you can expect to find things like repair packs to heal yourself in various rooms.

other building layouts will include arms dealers, general offices, and hotels.

overall, there will be 100 buildings in the main city, in groups of 4. although, since the city is only taking up 1/100th of the map, it might get bigger. outside the city will be suburbs with regular houses, and outside that, farm land, fields and forests.

also, decided to not use massive ground textures for this world like how ciroz is setup. on ciroz, there 1600x1600 and that uses a landscape scale of only 50. sabrada is using a scale of 500. to get the same detail, the texmaps would have to be over 15000x15000 and although that size would only be 15mb each in jpg, editing them would be insane.

Fallout is an amazing post apocalyptic game for PC where you come out an underground vault a few generations after world war 3. I was just giving you crap.

Very nice idea, i had a RPG once going with a similar situation but based across the entire world in different forums, only reached the point where the russian remnants had got past france and was fighting the resistance at spain though. I like the idea, will probably join it when its done :)

nah. long ago i had a world named FFA Combat.
it pretty much was free for all combat with no rules and pretty much unlimited ammo in a wide open area.

this is basically the same thing, but with an actual setting

a simple idea of the layout that the world will have.
the inner ring will be the city, consisting of 100 sky rises.
the middle ring will be a suburban area, holding many, many, many smaller houses.
the outer ring will be farmland.

outside of the rings will be hilly/flat forests/plains. mainly just unused, uninhabited space. although there will probably be a few buildings etc scattered around.

there will also be a few small rivers and ponds going threw the map.

work has started on the world. actual daily work now. assuming that i can keep working on it all day every day (which i hope to), it *might* be finished by spring, but will be somewhat playable much sooner (might have one section of the map ready to explore by the end of next week).

I have changed the layout idea for it and started work on the surface textures. these will consist of 16 texmaps similar to ciroz, but a lot bigger due to the fact that the tile size is a lot larger on sabrada then it is on ciroz. most of them will be 6300x6300 pixles, the edge ones will be 6400 on one side. (the usable map is actually 253x253 tiles, which can't be equally divided into 16 blocks of tiles).

the layout will be different from what is mentioned above. due to the larger tile size (which is needed to support collisions on huge models due to the 7 tile collision limit) the map will be divided into 4 play areas so players can choose what type of setting to fight in. upon login, you will start in the center of the world, which will be a safe zone (will start and respawn here each login). there will be teleports to the centers of the other 4 areas of the world, or you can walk to them easily. The 4 areas will be The City, The Hood, The Farmland, and Bloodbath Park. Each of these areas will be decorated accordingly to keep there theme while fitting the post war design of the world. the center of each of these areas will possibly also offer a teleport to the other areas.

descriptions of the areas are as follows (for now):
The City: Towering skyrises and wide streets with sidewalks make up the massive cityscape on sabrada. hunt your foes down in the maze of streets but don't get lost among the buildings or you may become a target yourself. Explore the huge buildings for power ups or enemies, there is much to be found among and inside the hundreds of towers.

The Hood: An urban setting with lot of houses to run around and hide inside, along with all the stuff you'd find in a post war neighborhood. hide behind a fence to make a surprise attack or explore the houses for health power ups, perhaps you'll even find some war survivors that could use your help.

The Farm: Combat in the wide open farm fields. There aren't many buildings to hide in so be careful and watch where your going because long range snipers will easily have an advantage here. The corn fields will provide the most effective hiding places, its so good that it even stops you from seeing where your going. during the great world war, many troops used these fields to hide in and camp in. they may have left stuff behind.

Bloodbath Park: Warfare wont get more skill based then when in the Andromeda National Park. Minimal buildings for cowering in will keep you out in the action. Not only are there open fields for optimal sniping, but the dense forests also provide cover and somewhat force close combat tactics for the skilled fighters. Theres a reason its nicknamed Bloodbath Park. Many armies have fought in this land and many troops have died from both sides during the great war. Searching dead bodies might provide good munitions, but don't let your guard down or you may become the newest body on the ground. Oh, keep an eye out for the turrets left over from the war.

This looks very interesting Zar.

Hope it works out. I am in the process of relearning the new features since I was last running Sabrada. So hopefully in a few months I will be able to rejoin this wonderful Universe again. Check your email as well Zar, please.
