here is something i haven't been able to to figure out how to change at this moment with replacing files in data folder. it is skybox textures, which gives better impression of space while moving around in it. probably mit will have to implement this feature on some future releases.
anyway, here's archive with textures which form seamless 'sky'.

I'm pretty sure space doesn't use a skybox at the moment. There's a code-generated starfield, and various nebulae models overlaid at strange distances (clients/space/nebulapiece1.atm, etc). Mit does something weird in the code to keep the nebulae planes on the horizon (if you see what I mean). I've had a few goes at making new nebulae graphics but I've only ever managed to make it look... slightly worse.
At the moment, each star system looks the same - they use the same nebula overlays and so on. If we could have a few nice variations, that'd be a great way to make space look a bit more varied (and I guess that would be simple enough for mit to include)
