ya know i feel most the ppl that dont want this change are lazy cry babys that dont wanna work hard, and yes i do think you pirates ( the ones that are crying over this) are driving all the players away in space before they see the rest of the game,

yes, there is plenty of alternatives that would be better then complete removal.

like the !find only works in your stardrive radius idea.
make it so you have to buy an item, maybe 'Ship Locater' that has ranges similer to the stardrive. you can then use it to locate all ships within that range. atleast then people would still have to work to find targets.

maybe its just my old ways, but it sickens every time i hear about people trying to get out of working. the player community has gotten so lazy since i started playing its unbelievable. and mishka saying he would leave just because he'd have to work at doing something he likes is a prime example of it.

no matter how you look at it. the fact of the matter is simple.
anybody that doesn't have a good enough ship to defend against the many pirates has to regularly take losses from overpowering pirates in big ships who can quickly and effortlessly infimp or stardrive vast distances to your location when your stuck trying to escape with your measly level 8 or 12 stardrive and cargo. most players don't like that, its why often players wait until a world resets to play it. theres little point in playing a world (or space) if you have absolutly no chance of doing much. thats why space is so empty. why play it when you have a cargo ship and some guy with an alian ship will come by and slaughter you in no time?

tell me mish, if i had a ship that was 10 times stronger then yours and i started killing you anytime you had a bounty and you had absolutly no chance of escapeing or defeating me, how would you feel?

I like Gavinbaisk's idea on the first page. While !finding your friends may be exploitive, scanning systems ( if possible ) would be fair. Being a person that has actually visited space in the last three months, I can say that some sort of scanning device is revelant for both pirates and traders alike.

Although this may sound a bit sketchy, I think some sort of insurance would cut back on the people leaving the game. I can find a person who has 140k and make him have zero in a matter of moments and that obviously makes people leave. If it was possible to earn or purchase some sort of insurance that stated if they got killed, they would still keep 1/4 or 1/2 of their cargo they may be more likely to stay...Just a crazy thought though.

A bounty system that used 20% of your total credit amount would have its effects also. :)

Ive been reading a few posts recently and need to get a couple of things off my chest.

First to mathew.
You keep saying u mainly play planets, but seem to have a lot of opinions about what is happening in space at the moment. You say that this or that is cheating or unfair. From what ive seen you have joined the space fraternity in the last week or so. You are the only one i know of who cant be found with the !find command, unless you are out as "nexus" . But all the time ive seen or heard you trading or hunting the sr you are out as mathew and cant be found. Now you have told me its not a bug, but how unfair on others is this. Im sure we'd all like immunity from the find command. So how about less moaning about the pirates eh ?

Zar
Most of the pirates help the newbs, not kill them, maybe mishk was having a bad day when he made his post?
We had a period where a select few peeps were killing newbs for fun but i believe myself and a few of the "pirates" have stopped the majority of those few from this practise, and i for 1 am seeing more people playing now not less because of it. I often see these pirates helping the newbs in the starter system, but never any of the older veteran players.
Also these pirates along with me are the ones who put up the prizes for fight nights, which are done to try to help the newbs, so maybe its about time they got some good press rather than always bad.
The only newb killing ive een lately is newb killing newb, and in my opinion this is what stops people playing now because they get bounties quick and run out of money and lose their lasers. Without any knowledge of the reset command they have nothing else to do but stay in starter sys until they get bored and leave the game forever, spreading incorrect news about how rubbish the game is.
I apologise if any of this doesnt sit too well with you but i play a lot of space and have dialogue with most people posting here, and this is how i see the current state of affairs.

I totaly agree with biker and yes, I had a bad day that day on my first post. School is driving me nuts. :x As biker said we pirates ( Mainly SR) help noobs very often, only sometimes and rarely we go on a killing party, but rarely. Anyways this is of topic.

All the ideas for the !find command are great but please............... dont take it away!
I especially like the stardrive range one.

first off, my username nexus is for zion, not if you all feel my, 2 trade routes a week, your missing out on money somehow i will be happy to get a wipe on zion and get the username gone

as for my opinion on the space, i was one the first in space, all i seen was a unfair almost cheating command to new players and traders and pointed it out

oh well most the ppl here posting will be another 6 week newbies that will be gone next month

well lets hope those 6 week newbies prove you wrong mathew for the good of the game.
i wasnt referring to zion in any way, i was just stating that if you are returning to space after being "the first", then with the current !find command perhaps u might like to get a username. then the pirates can find you as you find and hunt them. level playing field for all. :)

it not finding him is one of the bugs with the !find command.

another example of it is to use !find torden
it always says he's on zoric (for me atleast) , yet he hasn't been since i banned him more then a month ago. its either showing where he was the last time he played, or is just displaying incorrect info and he's still playing the game.

just a typical guy who quits the game over one little problem.
short story is that he scammed somebody out of 2.5k. so i granted the money back and *kill'd torden so he would see something wrong and want to talk to me, afterwhich i would reset him. but instead he came on, assumed i reset him for 'the fun of it' said he was gonna get somebody to hack me, and then left. so i banned him.

instead of just trying to talk to me and solve his problem, he just assumed i did something to him without reason and made his problem worse.

dont mean to dig up this old hatchet, but... i dont use !find alot... and today i did and noticed that it just said 'in space' on my target.... i did myself and it dol the planet/system, but went to space and only showed 'in space' for me. Does it only do this when the chat server is down or is find not as precise anymore?

Mit has changed the !find command so that it reports much less information to players. This is in response to the various comments about how it can be abused.

It tells what planet the player is on.
