Is this ok? I'm worried because his seen me playing the game before and wanted to have it on his laptop, i've downloaded it for him and his ready to set up his user name etc. Except because we are both using same router (me Ethernet, him wireless) and wouldn't that appear as the same external ip? Is it ok if we both play the game? I mean, I'm not cheating or anything, don't even use his laptop unless I'm on holiday and in which case, i wouldn't be playing TheUniversal.
If this is ok, what kind of stuff will i need to do or know about?
Thanks,
Smurfy
Dad wants to play game but we are both using same router

yes, you will both have the same external ip. the external ip is based on the connection with your isp, not how many routers you have.
you will be able to play fine, however, on most worlds having the same ip will prevent you from interacting with him besides chatting. you wont be able to work in each others buildings, give stuff between the accounts, buy from or sell to each others buildings, nor buy buildings from each other.

I think that's fine to be honest, although one question, why can't i see his name in space?zaroba wrote:yes, you will both have the same external ip. the external ip is based on the connection with your isp, not how many routers you have.

Happens with some other people as well, i told a friend about the game and some people could see him, some (including myself and mishka who was in the system) couldn't.
most of the networking in space is done on a peer-to-peer level, rather than via the galaxy server, to minimise the bandwidth use for the host. Unfortunately doing this means some links (like those between two people using the same router) can't get connected. (It involves unpleasant things to do with NAT, firewalls, and all the different types of router there are in the world). Some routers/network setups will work, some won't - the gamecode will occasionally improve to cope with more configurations, but for now, its just the way it is sometimes.. sorry.
(Btw. Some issues to do with people not appearing in space were fixed in v0.50.3 - tho this obviously doesnt affect your particular configuration)
