Worked on this for about 10 hours tonight :P

Tomorrow night, (instead of writing an essay ;)) I'll be reducing the amount of polygons and making up a texture and wheels.

Good to be back

Good to see you back brad. Nice prelude... Polycount doesn't look too bad to me. Watch the normals on the side windows tho :)

Don't forget you can use 3 levels of detail too. Three times the work but it does mean your highest detail model can have lots of bells and whistles (or hubcaps and intakes or something).

As a verrrrrry rough guide, these days I use 1500-2500 polys for the detailed model, maybe 50% less for medium detail and 75% less for the lowest detail level. It all depends on the model of course. With cars I usually find the body's polycount is nothing compared to the wheels.

My current car obsession is interiors... here's a fairly crappy update of the old dune buggy model, complete with a rough-looking driver. Wheel polys about 1500, the rest about 1000...

Anyway, enough polyrambling. Just don't get so lost in (Wings, is it?) that you fail whatever class you're supposed to be thinking about :)

Would have liked to import the wheels I made, but it looks like I'll have to find a different way.
Does the AT Model Convertor take a separate model for the body and wheels? I can't remember.

Yes it does. You can have separate front & back wheel models, too.

There's a tutorial here:
