Alright well I bought a cargo ship and im trying to start trading, but the ship cost 91 credits of my 100 credit newbie cash! Right now I am forced to trade water and food for scarce profits.
How did you all get 9 credits into thousands?
Trading
ok - keep going with the food and the water - it does take time in the early stages - not a lot can be done about that. -
when you've got a bit more cash behind you, move on to industrial machinery, or what ever else seems profitable - then on to computers once you can afford. build up your ship - cargo extensions/stardrives when you can afford the cost of that plus a cargo - no poiint upgrading if you can no longer fill your ship
we all started out with the same cash/ships after the december reset, and it didn't take too long to get a decent amount of cash - a couple of hours trading maybe. once you're onto the higher priced cargos, profits do increase pretty well.
also check out Damon's trading tips: http://theuniversal.net/narchive.php - there's some useful stuff for new traders there.
Before you think about upgrading ships (when you get to that point) check here for info:

ok - each ship has a specific Ion drive - and the ion speed of the ship cannot be increased.
ship add-ons- stardrives(up to L40) and cargo extensions (up to 25ton) can currently be bought.
stardrives allow you to jump between systems carrying cargo - this cannot be done with infimp or finite drive.
if you just want to play planets - dont upgrade stardrives, just trade enough to buy an infimp, which will alow you to get to any planet you know the name of.
These add-ons are not cumulative - cannot buy 3x10ton cargo bays and have 30 tons
If you upgrade, and have more than one stardrive/cargo bay - only the biggest will be used. there are some stations which will buy back previous drives/extensions - but you will not make a profit on these.
once you have bought a bay or a stardrive it will work on your current ship and all future ships you buy.

Ah...godless wrote:man i have a question: if I buy more ion drives will i go faster?Or what will happens if i buy 1 more of each drive? any good improvements?Sonro wrote:50 parsecs is standard - its an ion 5 ship
I'm going by ion drive...
that what got me lost...there was no units addid to the end of 5.65.60 speed
speed can be parsecs or ion...or anything that deals with the word speed...
This is why my chemistry teachers keeps forcing my class and me to lable units so we don't get lost like this
