What is impulse -0.6

Post by Kelbin »

What does impulse -0.6 mean?
I frequently get that where my speed would be and it stays that way for as long as 15 minutes real time. And I am stopped. If I want to get anywhere I have to fly in reverse to do it.

I really wonder if it isn't something small and stupid.

minus numbers on your impulse drive means you're going in reverse :)

to go forward - hit "page up" - increases impulse speed
"Page down" - slows impulse speed - hit it too much and you start reversing
hit "home" key to engage ion drive and go top speed

Well here is a partial screen shot showing the speed.

Tell me what you think please.

How can I work around this?

this happening after launching from a planet, or after a stardrive or something similar?
Presumably a bug with the intended engine speed not being reset after some special event like that, and i would imagine it'd clear itself if you press page up once.

shouldnt be hard to fix either way.

I tried using the page up and the page down buttons and they didn't work. However if I did a quick reset of my joystick controls and then I could get things working again.

Now if I could just get the controls modified for space flight I would be set. Cause I would love to be able to use all 3 axis Yaw, Pitch, and Roll. But such is life.

I still wonder which miracle techonlogy allows what looks like jet propulsors to push a ship backward without turning them 180° around

Oh c'mon. It's elementary my dear Devi. Simply apply Goodwin's Right Hand Impossibility Rule, square the direction of the impulse (inverse square if you're travelling backwards, obviously) and apply the result to the forward velocity of the object in question. Don't they teach you monkey physics in France? :p

And anyway, devi.. you have more important things to sort out ;]
