Zion: WATCH OUT FOR 'YE OLDE 1d ORES'!! (scam)

Post by VDZ »

If you walk on the hills near Console from time to time, you might've noticed 2 mines called 'ye olde 1d ores'.
You might've even bought from it.
These mines are owned by oden184.
Avoid these mines at all costs...

Unlike the name makes you believe, the ore sells for 1s instead of 1d.
Since the difference is one letter, and most mines sell for 1d, you simply don't notice.
Hell, I didn't notice I was scammed until Kahn told me it costs 1s there.
Buying there is just getting ripped off.

Oden earns more than 100s a day with this scam, or so the investment tells me (he had almost no money before this).
I say he should be banned from Zion, and maybe the whole Galaxy, but until it's decided whether he should be banned or not, avoid 'ye olde 1d ores'.

I almost got caught by this. Thankfully I am paranoid and read over everything carefully before I buy!

Really this is a pretty underhand tactic to use. When honest players are selling their ore at 1d rather trustingly. Not really making much of a profit but doing well for the economy. Then comes someone who tries to rip off... I mean who will fall foul of this scheme? Newbies mostly.

Oden tried to scam me too, by buying up all the steel at 1S 7d (and some at 1S 9d) and then trying to sell it back at 2S 1d. Naturally I refused but I am starting to see a pattern.

i don't play zion at all (so just ignore me if you want :P ), but....
the steel thing could just be a sneaky way to make a profit. players do that alot when thiers shortages. matthew was doing it last sabrada with wood, buying it all for 3-5d then selling it at his mill for 7d per.

the s / d thing could just be a typo. s and d are next to each other on the keyboard and if he diden't read over what he wrote then woulden't have noticed he mistake.
i've done that myself before when naming buildings.

or he could have been holding shift from driving around and hit page up while in the set sale price window for it.

The keyboard thing seems a weak explanation. It is a done thing on Zion to sell ore at 1d. There are other buildings with (1d Ore!) around that really do sell at 1d. In the price 1d and 1S are 10 pg up clicks away. He knew what he was doing.

As for the shortages. Yes. I agree it is a feisable if not slightly unethical policy. However, it does serve to enlighten us more on the attitude of the person we are talking about.

the easy way to find out is just to ask him :P
next time you see him on ask him if he means for it to be named 1d ore when it sells for 1s.

Short story:
I thought the post was enough as it is...but, yes, he knows very well what the hell he's doing, and I killed him for it (earning 79s6d) yet he didn't stop...

Long story:
When he came online after having scammed me, I said he was a scammer after welcoming him.
He asked 'why?' and I told him it sold for 1s instead of 1d unlike the name says.
He said he didn't know it (bullshit, he made the same 'mistake' twice), and that he'd change it.
I demanded my 18s back, told him a way to give my money back, etc.
I also told him that if he wouldn't give me my money back, I knew a secret that would cost him more cash than that (and that he'd lose my respect).
When all was ready, and I asked him if he'll pay or won't pay, he told me he wouldn't.
I said it was a sad thing that he wouldn't, and walked around a bit on the mountains while oden was shooting a bit with his crow.
I let him kill me 4 times.
After that, I waited a minute or two until he walked high enough on the mountains.
When he did, I went into my crow and blew him up, gaining 79s6d (he still has a bounty of 11s), and told him he had a bounty, and tried to tell him that his scamming now made him lose more than he gained (he hadn't gained that much back then).
He, however, just wouldn't listen, and kept yelling I scammed him, I stole money from him, and that he would have to close down all of his buildings and fire all workers.
I kept trying to tell him that he should not scam, but he just wouldn't listen. After that, I had to leave.

Now, the ore still sells for 1s.

That's just trying to get a monopoly, it's a fair way to earn cash. Not saying it isn't a weak thing to do, but it's not unfair.

While it is unethical, its just the way things are. Its not very big or clever, but then neither are the customers.
