Zar,don't you have comcast and host alot of worlds. Surely you can fit in some bandwith into a temp. galaxy serverr?

Ah,but I can live without the galaxy.it's like A-Tractor.

Heck, even I could host the galaxy. It's just a matter of getting everyone's clients to point a different location for the galaxy. ;P And whether or not the trouble of releasing a new version and getting the galaxy server and instructions to someone else is worth the trouble is all up to Mit.

i can setup a temp gal here soon enuf.. jus not sure whether itd be worth it.. dont have the current player records data available, so itd mean a fresh start, only for it to revert back to the previous data once fooli is back online.
prolly best solution for now is to just tidyup the no gal screens a bit more nd wait for the main un to get back.
like an a-tractor christmas, yeh :] it is it's 5th birthday afterall

Foooli,I think is the one who runs the server,is the only monkey that can reboot (Unless it's rebooted remotey by staff, which is possible :))
How do you choose planet...

the only worlds i'm currently running are sabrada and zoric

although i did think about bringing up planitia with a maze to wonder around in or some other simple fun based no real point type of design. luca as well. mainly just to display a bunch of people models that i 'found' and animated :P. thier both still on the pc, in the galaxy and not being used at all, so might as well give them a use until thier owners return.

I can host the galaxy for about 3 days, possibly not on boxing day, taking the kids to see their long lost Grandma - my mum  lol.

Anyway, I'll do it if you want, drop me a line - effexweb@gmail.com

Merry Christmas to all!

ALL servers down?

Post by Kahn »

I can't get to any planet at the moment. There are no planets on my finite drive list. Tried to download the the a-tractor client from http://www.gameislands.net/ but when I try to install it it says the files are corrupterd. :(

Anyway, to pass the time I decided to star!t building my own world. At least I can get to that! The server software for my new world installed OK. 8) I have started playing with the world settings but I think I am going to need a lot of help here from the more experienced guys or maybe my difficultes are simply due to the galaxy and chat servers being offline.

Anyway, Im hoping to set up my new world "No Mans Land" so that a central continent allows weapons and combat while the the outer continents have weapons disabled to provide more peaceful economic zones. Is it possible to partition the world like that?

IDEA OUTLINE:
No single continent will have all the resources it requires. Obtaining the missing resources will entail passing throught the dreaded no mans land full of bandits and other low life scum  or hiring other brave souls to get the goods for you. Ideally you will have the choice of leading a peaceful economic life in the non combat zones or leading a gang of bandits in the war zones and gaining control of the trade routes. Altenatively you may be able to freelance as a courier/ bountyhunter paid by the fat cats in the economic zones. Bombing may be introduced later for general pest control in the badlands  Cars will be allowed early on in the game to cater for lazy newbs and make this a fast start world.

SUMMARY
Non combat economic zones
Fast cars
Badlands and bandits
Balloons and carpet bombing
Big guns
Get rich or notorious ..or both!

Yes.. can be done currently using surface properties. (Apply different surface textures to each region, then assign them 'no weapons' and 'weapons' properties appropriately).
Other methods for doing it through the new map editor stuff will be provided soon.
