stardrive bug

Post by Guest »

whenever I use stardrive to get to a new system with cargo, I arrive, and then click on the com system button to get a trade report. Somehow this re-starts the stardrive, lands me in the same spot, and depletes my uridium supply. Last time it did this I ended up near mechzone with no uridium, and had to jettison 30 Computers (over 3k credits worth!) to get back somewhere I could get more uridium.

The easiest way to stop a system jump is just to shut down the client with f12 and restart it or if you happen to be near a space station you can try to ram yourself into that but chances are that if you just used your stardrive you won't be within range of one and once you get into the spinny portion of the jump it becomes hard to steer anyway.

I've had a similar problem as I came out of stardrive in the system, I pressed F5 to target a station and I immediately jumped into stardrive again and used my last uridium. Luckily however I was able to get more when I was but I had a run for my money as some guy spent all his time trying to kill everyone in that system.

I see fhko suggesting quitting to stop a jump, but is there any way that there can be a stardrive shutdown sequence written in?

Hmm. It doesn't happen for me. Is this in specific systems? With specific cargo? Does it happen without cargo? Windowed or fullscreen?

I've tried both the comm report and the f5 thing; with and without cargo; in two different ships; in multiple systems. Nothin unusual happens. I thought at first it might have been buffering the stardrive command in some way - praps by double clicking the icon, or something, but I've also tried it using the icon and the command line to stardrive, and again... it's fine for me.

Prolly need mit to take a closer look.

happens with or without cargo

Initially jumping btwn planitia and imperial- where I concentrated most of my time. has happened in a couple of other places as well.

was beggining to think I was doing something wrong, until I saw someone else had same problem

just happened again, but I was a bit more observant this time.

coming out of stardrive, ship lands in system, and screen flashes white. then system page reloads. didn't seem to reload completely.

maybe its a buffer problem, or even my cache?

Hmm, I dunno. At this point my technical knowledge of the game breaks down completely. Could be some kind of failed file transfer, perhaps... mebbe something to do with the new trade stuff. Still needs mit to sort I'm afraid :)

couple more things to consider (I been thinking):

both alphawolfe & I are playing in windows, with other stuff going on in B/ground (I work from home, this is not an option)

It seems to happen when switching between keyboard & mouse controls (Fkeys vs buttons)

The thing is that there is a period of time after the stardrive moves you to the system, and you start spinning that you can't do anything without restarting the jump process over again and draining fuel. I've found that if you do anything before your HUD comes up it reinitiates the sequence.

Maybe you could simply check if they have enough fuel before they jump, then once they complete the jump it subtracts the fuel, rather than taking the fuel before it even starts.

probably the easiest way around this (altho I'm guessing here - I'm not a coder) is to make it necesary to visit and highlight a system on the galactic map each tim]e the stardrive is activated - much in the same way that you have to indicate where you want to go each time infimp is used. that way, it would be impossible to "accidentally" stardrive again.

it would also probably be pretty easy to make it so you can't stardrive into the system your already in.

if currentsystem = selected, stardrive = disabled

or something like that (i know nothing of coding :P )
